Not a lot - since 2020
Hi,
I have a 2024 Hymer on a Ducato Panel Van base vehicle and have read on here (and elsewhere) about the vulnerability of drivers door locks to be forced with a small screwdriver - a pricking attack.
My simple question is has this long term vulnerability been fixed, and if it has, how do I know if my van is equipped with the modification ?
Regards

A Hymer!? what model?

Yes I think after 2017Fiat fit the internal angle bracket to prevent the lock being opened by screwdriver attack.

Although there is nothing on the exterior to show this upgrade to act as a visible detterent like the pro plates have.

My 2022 had no protection as standard.

It's not been fixed (as of 2023 models and I doubt 2024 either). I know as I fitted a Proplate to my 2023 Ducato and upon opening up the door panels and removing the lock there was no factory protection in place. Quite shocking really for such a well documented vulnerability.

Looks like a no then.

I'm sure I read somewhere that Fiat had fixed the problem, but the feedback on here seems to put this in serious doubt, I think I am going to order a plate for the drivers door as that is the only one that has a key hole.
In addition, I think I'll get dead locks fitted to all four doors, fit an OBD lock and get a Disklok.
All this, plus the Tracker that the insurers insist upon, ought to keep the thieves out, and help recover the van in the event of somebody stealing it.
Thanks for the advice of everybody that has contributed to this thread.

I think the Fiat solution was internal, not a plate under the handle. So the lack of a visible plate doesn't mean it hasn't got the internal mod.

My 2019 Fiat defo has no extra internal mod! I have the screwdriver marks to prove it can be opened this way - my internal HEOsafe locks that only open 2mm before alarm starts blaring has saved my van in the past🫰🫰🫰

Play Safe Fit Dead Lock
Weld the doors shut and use the Hab door'

Designers of expensive 'A' Class do not see the need to provide cab doors, only as an option.

Cab doors were fitted for commercial vans which had a bulkhead and freight behind, with no other door and walkthrough

Does anyone have a link to the item you fit to prevent the screwdriver attack.

Thanks

Not cheap but work well and a visible deterrent.

I fitted one of these to the driver side door ( the only one with a key lock on our van )

Great post ..it's opened up a lot of discussion and interesting advice, we all know you can only do so much ..here's my tuppence worth.

1) Proplate as a visible deterent - my 2021 Fiat Ducato already had the internal bracket mod and stops the door being opened to create a gap for a jemmy.

2) Hooklock catch ..
improvement on the straight deadlock where scroats use jemmy to deform the door so much that they sideways force the door bolt out of the body work lock plate.
The hook lock - locks the door in place making sideways force a lot more difficult.

Just love the extra long key to stop scratching the body work !!

On my2018 built Ducato Fiat did not fit any internal lock protection as I found out when some scrote tried the screwdriver attack on my drivers door. Luckily I have internal door pillar locks fitted. Now I also have the proplates fitted
