I have a Fiat Ducato based motorhome with the 2184cc 160hp engine and auto box new in April last year. No dipstick just an electronic display ! Before a long trip I topped up the oil and all was fine for 30 miles then it showed an oil overfill warning which has mostly been on ever since but sometimes goes off. Anyway have had the amount of oil added dropped back out but it still shows the overfill so suspect a faulty sensor. Can't get it booked into garage till October. Wondering if this is a common fault so asking if anyone is aware of that ? Thanks.

are you sure there is no dipstick. i was told this when i picked up our 160hp fiat carthago. i didn't argue with the salesman, but couldn't believe the fill depended on a few lights. got home and sure enough found the dipstick which is hidden from casual view.

Well I can't find it (so far) and both the supplying dealer and NE truck and van agree it doesn't have one. My answer in the short term is to drop the oil out and refill with the specified quantity. It is booked in to NE Truck & Van in October !

The problem might be it needs reseting with a diagnostic tool to put the light out just a thought.

I also asked NE Truck and Van at Carlisle last week and got the same answer
cant say I’m overly happy not having a physical way of checking the oil

I have previously posted about my oil gauge on V line 670 2022 no working.
On the new Ducatos there is no oil dip stick it is electronically displayed.
Mine showed just 2 bars on the dashboard display.Oil was add, 2 days later a waring light and excess oil message appeared. The only way to remove excess oil was to drain engine oil at the sump.
I later booked van into local Fiat garage, and they found oil sensor was Faulty . And it was replaced.
I have since heard of 3 others with same problem .one went in for 1st Hab and check. It appears garage topped up oil as electronic gauge showing low.Only for warning and error message to come next day.
If you have a new ducato with the electronic dash check your oil gauge if showing empty or 2 bars you need to get it checked out.
Garage that did my oil sensor said Fiat are aware there is a problem out there.

There is No dipstick on a new Fiat Ducato 2022 onwards with the electronic sensors for oil level.

We had a faulty sensor on our 2019 Fiat. I knew the oil was ok because it had a dipstick but the annoying warning light kept coming on. I ignored it.
How those without a dipstick get on is a mystery to me.

I would drop it out then put it back in. Just measure and put in the correct amount.
It can’t of done many miles, but if 12 months old I would put in new oil anyway.

How much money is saved by deleting the dipstick?

How much will it cost in warranty claims to fix the defective oil level sensors?

They will be gutted they are going wrong now instead of a few years down the line so they can give you the finger just like it is with the airbag module on earlier vans

Don't see how you could put the right amount in. It never drains completely and some models the same oil is in the gearbox and even the diff. I don't think in over 40 years I have used exactly what it says in the service book.

sorry my mistake. mine is a 2020 2.3. apologies for adding to confusion. lights seem a very poor substitute to a metal stick.

The thing is the sensor might not be accurate enough. Mine is a 22 model, no dipstick.
Since day one oil level is displayed between 5 or 7 out of 8 segments, depending on the day.
I guess it's fine...

I'm a fan of the dipstick over electronics any day, but in keeping with the "cutting corners" theme, I've seen a few videos on YouTube recently of the now obligatory yellow pull ring handle on the dipstick snapping off and leaving the "stick" and a broken plastic plug jammed in the dip tube. How difficult is it to make a dipstick that actually functions as it should ?
I bet until recently, parts departments never sold any replacement dip sticks apart from when a customer wanted a longer one as their original is no longer reaching the oil !

jockaneezer on my audis never had to replace a dipstick but 2 needed new dipstick tubes plastic that got brittle with hot oil.( a third was cobbled)
The NEW 2.2 ducato engine originaly came from a jeep 2016 with different otientation and the obvious place to stick one is ocupied by the DPF nowt to do with accountants just the eu insistance on adblu.

I came across this thread during a search for answers to a problem we are having: the oil overfill warning light came two days after we picked up our motorhome, which is on a 2022 Ducato 2.2 manual.
It was recovered to our local NE Truck and Van location. They couldn't do a diagnostic because, I was told, the computer was faulty; so, they drained and refilled the oil. Light still on. I was told the oil had not been over filled, so they want to establish if it is a sensor fault. Yesterday, five days after it went in, I was told they are waiting for someone to come on site to update the diagnostic computer as it won't connect to our vehicle.

Solwaycruiser, did your issue get resolved, and was it covered completely by a warranty claim?

To fill a New Ducato with electronic oil display. So Full is 8 Bars. When reduced to 4 put 500 ml of oil in the vehicle. Less if you want to try. Never more. Never. Never. Never. Drive the vehicle until the temperature gets to 92 degrees then check the oil again. Should read as good as full. No more than 500 ml. The vehicle ECU has to recognise the oil input.
