I'm a newbie
Hi Everyone. I want to fit a drop down single step to my MH. My hip is shouty stepping in. Annoyingly. The distance from the ground to door sill is only 330mm, but when the legs come down that increases. My question is to those who have steps what is the minimum height that people have "got away with" when retracted that does not bottom out when driving. Potholes ramps etc. Any advice gratefully received. Thanks. Mine MH is a Dethleffs 6717 Trend.

I’ve fitted the Thule 12v single step to the hab door on our Adria Compact and the distance from the underside to normal ground level is approximately 20cm, and the door is located slightly forward of centreline of the wheelbase.

I installed it after doing some serious shin barking - think streaky bacon rasher removed - when the small hop up step we were using to compensate for the added height of the levellers on an uneven surface tipped over. (Alcohol may have been involved!)

Here's a link to the installation instructions and on page 5 it has the open and closed dimensions.

Thanks for your help, but I have those - but the question is what is the minimum people have on their step when retracted from bottom of step to the ground. Thanks

Thanks Orion - 200mm is a bit more than I have - I am looking at 165mm which is not a lot - and not sure is viable

The Government website on traffic calming measures states that the maximum height of a sleeping policeman is 100mm, that might guide your choice of step. See the regs attached…

Check out page 47 onwards….

Cheers!

Depends where the step is located in relation to the axles as they will provide the clearance angle when going over sleeping policemen etc. Have you any other low slung components mounted underneath to give a reference point - spare wheel, levelling rams, etc.?

Thanks Orion - Height to hydraulic ram plate is 210 and this at the axle. Hab door is metre or so behind so at 165 could be problematical.....

In that case it would be worthwhile measuring any similar installations you come across and asking the question of the owners?
