While I was in the finding a van stage I remember reading about someone replacing the struts on their drop down bed. They discovered the hinge bolts were only just hanging on, so it was a timely intervention.
Slowly going round checking and adjusting everything, finally got round to checking and the offside was loose enough to allow a bit of distortion at the hinge, easy enough job to nip it up with 2 x 17 mm spanners through the drivers window.
Just posting as it might remind someone to check and avert a disaster.
