Looking for overnight parking before getting ferry in the morning, used to go to Marine Parade but that's now £11 overnight so we won't be going there!

Options for free overnighting appear to be:
  • Maison Dieu car park however it seems to get youngsters in cars in there until the wee small hours
  • The castle car park (not Castle St) but this also seems to have some disruption
  • Bleriot Memorial to the north east of the castle - has anyone used this?
As we'll be going to Folkstone first to get an AHC for Bella we'll then go on to Dover from there so if there are any other places between there and the port they might be suitable too.

Suggestions?

Not stayed myself but a mate uses the Valiant Sailor on the old A20 at Capel le Ferne. It's on the apps like park4night.

Canterbury Park and Ride £4

Sorry to correct, but it is £4 to midnight and another £4 for the next morning. It includes the free P+R bus into the City if one wants to go in the day/evening before. You can service the vehicle so arrive in France with MH ready to go. Toilets open till the site closes.

The entry barrier closes at 2030(?) but you can exit anytime once you have paid at the machine.

It is an easy 25 mins. to Dover and one passes a 24 hr Tesco on the way if one needs top-up shopping and fuel.

Think the OP was talking about Dover prom which is £11 now . Sure now as its ANPR on the barriers at Canterbury you can access anytime .
Mitzimad beat me to it .
And correct its £4 a day but if you overnight that is the second day so £8

I parked overnight in a little wooded common carpark which was only a 10 minute drive from the port but I'm struggling to find it on park4night. I'll see if I can find it on my old polarsteps

How do you think I flipping afforded it!!!! :giggle:

Seriously though it's in the wrong direction for us as we'll be going to Folkestone to the vet late afternoon then onto Dover for a morning crossing so it' doesn't make sense to go all the way up to Canterbury and down again.

If it wasn't for getting Bella's AHC we'd go over on the same day we travel from home but don't want to risk it in case we get held up on the motorway which, with the idiots messing about on the QE2 bridge is a possibility! The vets are open until 7.00 pm and although we'll plan to be there mid-afternoon, if we can't make it before 7.00 pm we'll go at 8.30 am the following morning then on to the ferry. Once we've got Bella a passport in Spain/Portugal we won't need to worry about it again.

Hubby spotted that one on P4N but we wouldn't want to eat out especially with it being Bella's first night in the MH, might use it in the future though.

We stayed here once. It was very quiet (bar one drunk man who wandered through shouting at no one at 1am.)

I guess it's just luck of the draw in places like this.

We came across a German couple who parked in the very top section of the Dover
Cliffs National Trust car park. On the day we were there, there was no one on the entrance, no one to pay so I guess it wasn't an issue but I imagine you aren't really allowed to. They do say it's locked at night but again I don't think it was on this occasion. The very top section is not really visible so no one would know you were there. I didn't want to risk getting locked in as we had a ferry to catch very early.

Dog House @ Smeeth. Great pub, great beer and very nice people. Free if you drink in pub. Email to book though.

It quickly fills up with vans, usually Polish Luton Vans.

At least it's lost its reputation as a dogging site in recent years as Stone Street is very busy ....

I live not far away and go past every other day. Often full.

Just reporting what I have witnessed ...😁
Aye daytime there were a few vehicles when I was there but overnight it was just me and 2 others. Was a good quiet overnight spot with a big field next door for the dogs to run in. Couldn't fault it myself

I compiled this list for using Eurotunnel. Might be some useful stops for you on it:

  1. New Dover Road Park & Ride at Canterbury with water/waste disposal.. Over half an hour away. £8 for overnight as counts as 2 days. Free use of Park & Ride buses.
  2. Page Farm CAMC CL Site, Postling, Hythe, Kent, CT21 4EZ. 15 minutes away. “From £15 per night”. The site is easily accessible from the M20 (2.5 m) and is the closest site to the Channel Tunnel Terminus (4 m). Nearest Pub (1.5 m), Local shops (2 m), Supermarket (5 m)
  3. Black Horse Farm Caravan and Motorhome Club Campsite, 385 Canterbury Rd, Densole, Folkestone CT18 7BG. 17 minutes away. About £28 for 2 adults. “Fab pub just across the road for food too.” “You only get to stay in an area reserved for late arrivals / early departures, if using as a stopover.
  4. Marine Drive in Dover, about 8 miles east of Folkestone. This is on street parking, it’s quiet and there’s no charge.
  5. The Drum Inn, Stone St, Stanford, Ashford TN25 6DN. Has a campsite. 14 minutes away. £20 per night. “Amazing olde worlde pub and excellent food”. “needed care going over ramps to the camping area, with risk of grounding in some vehicles.” It takes campervans, mohos and caravans but does get busy so it is advisable to pre book to guarantee a space.
  6. The Valiant Sailor, New Dover Rd, Folkestone CT18 7JJ. 14 minutes away. 4 motorhome bays. Free if you eat and drink in the pub. “Give them a ring to book a table and they will cone off the corner spot of the car park for you. Large level car park, good food and ales.”
  7. Daleacres Club Campsite, Lower Wall Road, West Hythe, Hythe, Kent, CT21 4NW. 20 minutes away. About £16 a night.
  8. The County Members, Aldington Rd, Lympne, Hythe CT21 4LH. 13 minutes away. “The County Members is a charming, traditional, local pub that serves food and drink 7 days a week”
  9. Master Brewer pub, Perries Mead, Broadmead Rd, Broadmead, Kent CT19 5UD. About 10 minutes away.
  10. Little Switzerland Caravan Site, Wear Bay Road, The Warren, Folkestone CT19 6PS About 20 minutes away. "Lovely stopover in Folkestone, stayed in Little Switzerland which was cute - quiet, with toilets, showers, cafe, facilities, and about 20 pitches plus a few camp spots for the bikes. The views are awesome and the guy that runs it is lovely and gives your directions for lorry-free route to docks."

They are open until 7.00pm according to their AHC website so I would imagine if we get held up they'd still see us as a last resort, but I'll need to book an appointment anyway so will make sure.

Thanks for that, just one correction, the Marine Drive parking in Dover is now £11 a night as they brought in charges, you also can't stay there during the day either AFAIK.

I've used Maison Dieu in Dover twice this year and will use all the time from now on. Quiet, loads of space (I'm 7m plus trailer and racecar so c. 15m overall). Usually just a few other mohos and vans, not seen more than 6. There are 3 coach bays by the trees for long units.

Hubby's found out about the Cricket Club in Folkestone near Morrisons - anyone used that?

Sorry yes the practice is open till 7pm but collection times for AHC is stated as up till 6pm as in the FAQ's. Dont get caught out is all I'm saying......

We stayed at Farthing Common last December, found it to be an ok spot and a great spot for the dog,
so will stay again, got our westie a Spanish passport so she is good to go. Just hope it works, no problem coming back on it. Fingers crossed it is ok to go over this time.

Pop down to Hythe adjacent to the royal military canal opposit sainsbury,
