Just been doing a bit of cleaning on the van and the hab door strut came off one end, it had unscrewed from the socket, the rod disapeared in side but I manage to entice it out and put it back together, the question is are they supposed to be charged with gas or are they just for a bit of resistance? as I can push the rod in and out without much effort. I can feel cost implications already.

Our 2013 Savannah with the same hab door as your's, Dane, is just a friction rod and case. We had same / similar problem and I guess the strut is just to hold, albeit not very well, the door open against an internal "stop".
