The habitation door handle on my CI Carioca made an ominous click when I opened it today and is now hanging loose. The door still locks but I can’t open it using the handle, only by tugging the inserted key. I called the garage I go to for habitation stuff and they told me they wouldn’t know what the problem is until they take the lock apart and there’s a potential they may not be able to re-assemble it, therefore would need a part from Italy which are taking 4 or 5 months at present. What seemed a minor issue therefore escalated into something much more serious. I asked if it was possible to buy a generic handle kit of the same size online and was told ‘it doesn’t work like that’ and you can only replace a handle/ lock on a like-for-like basis.

Is that correct? The van is 15 years old. I’m left wondering what happens if they can’t source the same lock. We use the motorhome all the time and couldn’t be without it for months. Any advice/ guidance would be appreciated.

I think it's the handle off the sliding door if it was a PVC.
Sorry, I’m being thick, don’t understand what you’re saying?!

If it was a panel van, that handle would be on the side sliding door. They've just repurposed the same part for a converted hab door.

That looks like a standard Fiat Ducato door handle to me, no?
I don't think so?

But it is kind of similar to the ducato passenger door.

But again. Similar BUT not the identical.

It certainly looks like a >2006 Fiat Ducato door handle. I'm not sure which handle it is. There's also differences for things like dead locking. But I bet if you got it off, it'll have the Fiat part number stamped on it somewhere.

I very, very much doubt it is a custom handle though. So should be available from somewhere.

If the OP Dwarfland let's us know what the base vehicle is and the year of manufacture we may be able to google up a result for him :)

It took me ages to identify the cab locks on my 2001 Ducato based A class - they were off an Iveco Turbostar truck.
It will be off a vehicle - but which?
Good luck

Not identical but if everything else fails this could be a replacement possibility. FAP appears to make lots of these types of handles over the years so an older model of this one may be a possibility.

Thanks- I’ve found that one too. There’s one called a Star Pro tek which looks the same but they all say right hand system. My understanding is that’s hinges on the right if looking at the door from outside?

Sorry can't advise on that. I was just waiting for a server to install so I decided to do a bit of googling for you :)
Back at work now configuring said server so can't look any further. Good luck though (y)

Chances are when it’s taken apart it may be a simple fix and if not I’m sure you could rig something up to keep the door closed from the inside. Perhaps a thumb lock or something? Until it’s taken apart there is no way of knowing.
I have in the past had to make a small bit of steel with a couple of holes to fix locks along with bending a bit of wire and even epoxy resin to fix one on my own van which I got a spare lock for a couple of weeks later but never changed after 8 months selling the van

Looks like over 250 quid for a full lock but I have seen the handle only for about £65. Am awaiting dimensions. Still doesn’t explain the moho habitation garage saying you can’t just buy them offline.
