Burstner Travel Van
Exp
Newbie - bought first MH 11/03/2023
The 15 year old catches on my Burstner seem to be overcome by not very strong gusts of wind.

Questions:
Would fitting identical but new & unworn catches give a noticeably better hold.

Has anyone replaced this type of catch with something better.

I’ve replaced them with identical new catches after buying the van but haven’t noticed any improvement ,thinking about some other way to retain the door atm.

Drill two holes, one down both bits of plastic in the center. Make a double hook from some thick wire. Job done.
I’ve considered doing just that but on my van the two parts are offset when they meet leaving very little to drill through 👍
on thinking further if you mean a ‘u’clip I can see how that might work 👍

I’ve done that with mine but not used it in case either of us forget and inadvertently give it a tug to close and cause damage .

Photo No. 1 Shows one of our garage doors. (I'm NOT bragging, honest John W)

Can you see the 'Achilles heel' that those very bright? German designers didn't think of?
They put the EHU socket in such a position as to make it impossible to keep the door open when on EHU.

The solution:

A previous owner fashioned a piece of wire thus;

to allow access to the garage whilst the EHU plug was in place.

I dare say this would work for you.

This is a permanent option, the holes may match up with your existing, but you can adjust if necessary

After recovering from ear bashing from her indoors for glue on her kitchen worktops and one bent steak knife I made these magnetic catches.

I do not understand why MH builders fit these plastic clips relying on friction.

Truck rear doors are held open by metal 'T' shaped arms which drop down into slots on the truck walls. They use mechanics not friction

Look at them next time.

I am not sure if one can buy them to fit existing hole centres and internal reinforcement may be needed.

Good idea - I’m thinking one hole through all pieces and insert a small golf Tee

I have one of these on a Lunar caravan. It is a positive catch so needs the trigger flicking to close the door. I find it does every thing asked of it.

If you unscrew the catch on the door and turn it round you will find that it works just like new, I bought a new one the other week they can be bought from the bay of evil for under a fiver anyway so no great outlay. But like me you will in all probability find that there is a flat spot where the door part engages, so give that a try first. If that does not make it any better then buy a new one.
