First moho 11/2013, second 11/2014 current from 09/2019.
I need to replace our exhaust as the inlet connection has rusted off, it’s a 25mm connection.
Has anyone replaced the exhaust using a non standard one?
The cheapest I’ve found is €175 including postage (possibly plus duty) being despatched from Italy.
The usual UK outlets either don’t have it in stock (possibly may have some more in January) and the price is >£280!

I’ve hooked up the flexible stainless steel pipe so it doesn’t drag on the road!
I could possibly get a short length of 25mm pipe welded to the existing exhaust inlet, given that the exhaust is 14/15 years old I think I would rather replace it.

Any suggestions or alternative exhaust ideas welcome.

Thanks Martin

All the Chinese diesel heaters are 25mm exhaust so think there are a few options available.

At that price I would get it welded or get a stainless one made.
I can buy a full exhaust for the car for less money.

Looks very similar to mine, I think if I wanted to keep it I would look at having one made and sort a shorter run. However having had it on for 3 years and never used it, Ive bought an additional lithium and taken it off.

They do seem to rust very quickly. The pipe between the exhaust and the generator rotted on mine and it was only 2 years old. When I was replacing the pipe I did notice that the part you have issue with was extremely corroded. I think perhaps moisture sits on this section. I always say we should take it off, then winter comes and we start to use it. I should allow the lithium to discharge more, I get to around 40% and the generator goes on. We only run it when we are not near anyone such as in lay-by etc.

Martin, it’s a job on my list of things to do, not fix the exhaust, but remove the generator and repurpose the locker for more useful purposes!

I would have one made. Talk to a local fabricator as it’s easy to silence more than you have currently, which will make it more user friendly too!

Mine was rusty in the same place and pipe broke .. I cut it off at the weld and we welded a section of stainless steel 25mm pipe in place, buffed it up with the grinder and resprayed it. Good as new for 20 years old.

I wouldn't pay £175 for a replacement silencer , if mine hadn't been repairable I'd have had one custom made from stainless steel . Which would have been a lot cheaper.

Haven't got my genny working properly yet though. A job for morroco I think

Did Tam Northernraider recently have a generator exhaust replaced on his van?

The generator works perfectly so no need to bin it!
We have 400ah of lithium, 600w of solar and a 50ah b2b so the generator rarely gets used.
At the moment we are in Greece parked alongside the ocean, no neighbours, no cars or scooters and no people. We intend to stay here for a couple of days. As the days are shorter, dry but not sunny all the time so like stewartwebr mentioned I used the generator when the lithium were around 40% soc for about an hour yesterday and the metal pipe snapped off!

No one around to object so we ran the generator today while we went out cycling for about an hour to the nearest village so we didn’t hear it either 🍿

As some of you have suggested when we get back home I’ll remove the silencer and look to get it repaired or a stainless steel replacement locally if not bonkers expensive. I think the diesel heater exhaust option also has merit if all other options fail.

Thank you for your advice and suggestions. Martin

Still useable, the batteries got charged up a bit and it was slightly (a lot) noisier than the last time we used it about a year ago! No one around to object and we went out cycling for 90 minutes to the nearest village so we didn’t hear it either 🍿

Why not try one of the marinas while you are there, someone must be able to fabricate one for you.

If I remember rightly when we started Tams up without the exhaust on it wasn’t that loud, just like a normal genny to me, you’ve got plenty of time to source a replacement and if your out of anyone’s annoyance then run it…🤭

You right, it’s not that much louder, it just adds a sort of put put noise into the mix. I’m not sure how effective the exhaust is in quieting it down, mines is certainly very loud.

Mine is dead quiet
I think it’s the big fan which makes the noise, I have the 3.5kw LPG model. Allows me to run the charger at full throttle pumping 120amps into the lithium and have a bit spare for the kettle etc. I would not describe it as quiet.
