Did you connect the flue to vent out properly
Is there a spiral removable baffle fitted in the flue ?
That was my first thought excuse the pun but im a bit baffled
I will send a photo of how mine finnishes into the grill which i think is the same as yours
But suspect it not the vent thats the problem but have to eliminate it

Not sure about the spiral baffle thing but I have since seen this on a video, cleaned the jet with lighter fluid gas then used it upright to release air only , I did think of replacing the jet but as on my travels not so easy to get delivered or find a stockist. I’m currently in York.

This is how mine is just for information purposes but I think grasshopper has solved your problem
And also there is a plastic cover on the end with holes in to prevent insects going down flue
Which in your case would have melted

New jet around £20 mark for tiny thing but worth it if it works ,just gotta source 1 nearby or stay in York.

There is a large motorhome site on A64 north east of York, might hold spares 👍

Good luck that looks scary 😳

Edit- I don’t really understand what you did with the lighter fuel but wonder if the residual fuel ignited later causing the problem 🤔

Yer, it hasn’t been fun without cold food/drink. Thanks for now ,hopefully a new jet cures it.

Sprayed it thru hole to clean then again just with air , that wouldn’t be enough residue .

Could it be soot rather than melting . May i suggest you try to clean it with Jiff /siff like vim if it cleans off then its not burned/melted and points to the jet and flame not burning correct

I suspect your efforts to clean the jet has ended up partially blocking it and the flame is burning yellow and badly
see if you can remove the metal cover and look at the flame

Soot yes but burning and the smell was terrible , this alone was unable to live with, some mentioned ammonia? Also another mentioned turning fridge upside down for 24hrs . So suggestions that confuse the issue.

Can’t see flame whilst burning as it’s between my 2 outside vents as this was a desperate replacement for my original fridge.

Turning the fridge upside down would be a desperate remidy for a fridge that doesnt get cold do not turn it upside down

Thats unfortunate
I had a fridge a few yrs ago that was leaking fluid and it was yellow dust when it dried

In this instance if it was possible and maybe not possibly as you are away,
1..I would get from toolstation or screwfix a mirror on an extendable stick take the fridge out take the cover of put it back and watch the flame with the mirror
OR depending if i had normal gas bottles buy a lenght of gas hose plus juberllee clips and a £8 regulator some block connecters a piece of wire and test the fridge standing next to the van
But as i say not always possible

Thank you for all your help, I have now put my new jet in and so far it’s working, hopefully with all the stopping and starting it’s going to get on travels it stays that way.
Thank you again.

How did you clean the jet. The diameter of the hole in the jet is critical. If you used anything that enlarged that hole you would get a much bigger flame.
Thank you for your help,
I’ve put a new jet in and after a few attempts it lit and seems good, no smell and no excess heat,
Thanks again

Just fyi! I cleaned the jet a few years ago. Did too good a job, enlarging the hole. Same issue.

Way off grid so I removed the jet and placed it on a solid base, spare wheel centre. I rested a ball bearing in the hole and peened it over.
Closed the hole down.

Carry some sizes of Ball bearings just in case,

Tony
