Hi,
Hoping to get some effective advice please. We're on holiday and the fridge won't cool properly on gas. On electric it is 100% and when on gas it is igniting but not cooling .
My understanding is that the burner system might need cleaning. However I'm not sure really what to do!
Any help would be gratefully received as we can't afford to throw out any more food!
Thank you
Ian

I've learned to remove the vent covers when on gas. With them on it's less efficient and needs the opening at the top vent to exhaust the hot air.

Have you got fans in the top vent ?
They help a lot but if it's not working at all on gas it probably something else.

Our same model did just that a couple of weeks ago, had to throw out the frozen dog food. Anyhoo, the gas was burning blue, but it wasn't making the usual "roaring" sound, so in desperation, I stripped the burner out. One Philip's self tapper holds a little tin shield in place and another detaches the burner from the "chimney". I think I used a 12 or 13 mm spanner to undo the gas pipe union whilst holding the square burner body steady with an adjustable spanner. Be careful as the the "top hat" shaped jet is held in place by the gas pipe. I didn't find any obvious problem, but as soon as I had it back together, it lit up and started "roaring" away. Took about 3 hours to get the fridge back to 6°C from 25°C.

@Robert Clark Your post made me just have a quick look at my burner, how fortuitous! We have been on a very windy site with massive gusts, and due to the high temperatures, 35-39 and only 10 amp supply and wanting to run both AC units this required the fridge to be on gas. So with this useful video and now on a more relaxed site I removed the lower vent to find that the plastic condensate collection/cooling tray that clips over the return pipe to provide some added cooling had suffered some burn from what I can only assume was blow back from the burner. The plastic was perforated and leaking so I have removed it and made a temporary repair. Checking the gas it was roaring and there was no abnormal blowback so it had to be the extreme gusts.
Has anyone had this problem and do you think the explanation sounds laudable or is there something more sinister?

I HATE Dometic

Hence why I fitted a decent 220v wine cooler in my new van

What fridge options were you offered on your new van?

Thank you guys

A gentle tap of the burner may be all that's needed to dislodge crud that may have found its way in. With care it should be possible to remove the jet and blow it clear - do not poke anything into it or you will damage it.
It's possible the flue needs cleaning; if you can access it with a narrow brush you may find it is sooted up. Not sure exactly how it's done on your fridge though.
The essence of anything with the fridge burner system is be gentle and careful.

if you do try to remove the burner you need two spanners one on the nut the other on the shank of the burner otherwise you can twist the pipe

thank you guys

Our new to us van is a 2013 Autotrail Savannah so there was no choice available

More of the same, they are like toys, I had a Norcold in my RV loads of issues but made Dometic look like the Amateurs they are. I am at the factory mid September so will ask but won't hold my breath. Such a shame.

Me thinks they have a stranglehold on the market
