Looking to get one so that Tilly can come with us..

Any recommendations re make and type?

How big do you want it? We bought ours from a Dutch website ( pre B word) and it worked out at E65 delivered, if you can be patient I will go and dig out the make for you later this morning, at the moment I am not venturing into the depths of my garage as its full of car! The dog is a 30kg pointer

ShiftZZ There's one for sale in classifieds. Our Cairn Charlie sits in a basket on my bike.

We have the buddy riders which holds a dog upto 10kg , not cheap but ideal. clamps to the seat post and sits above the crossbar, tried a trailer but found it very inconvenient

We looked into this for Nala but at 17kg she was just too big for a basket and we wanted something less cumbersome than a trailer. We ended up buying this … she’s taking to it well but has only been used on short rides so far. We bought a short lead to attach too.

Bought this from Hawk cycles, well made and strong, The chrome on the wheels rusted quite quickly but the wheels on the trailer still went round :giggle:

£90.00 a long time ago

Later on when we had lost Tom and Jerry had got a little unsteady and could not walk very far I bought a different type that had dual use ie: as a trailer and also pushchair, It was a cheap one and not as well made or robust as our double one but it did the job for the short time we needed it.

Bought direct from Vidl X for about £75.00

Make sure you get one with an alloy frame and wheels, the cheaper all steel models soon grow wearisome when you're biking uphill.

Vida XL .co.uk has the same trailer on as per Canopus picture and the chrome on the wheels needs a coat of vaseline to stop surface rust, apart from that fine for the big dog, the wheels are held on with a 10mm nut and bolt and it folds flat for storage and transport Ours is identical but bought from the Dutch sister site ( 9 years ago now!)

I would've thought you'd be able to put her in a basket on the rear rack, assuming you have one, much easier than a trailer and less to store in the MH.

She was ok in the front basket when she was a puppy.

Storage, should.be ok, massive garage..

Yes I have a buddy rider as well. It feels safer for both me and my dog. As you say there are limitations on the weight of the dog and also the bike frame material. My dog doesn’t like being on the bike but this is the carrier that she seems best in.

An alternative to the doggy front seat is a kiddies front seat, a heck of a lot cheaper too, just found this lot on Ebay:

Our dog seems to like being on a seat up front, yaps excitedly at everyone we pass

Croozer is a good brand of German trailers for children and dogs. Ours has now done over 10,000km with 40kgs of dog in it and although we’ve replaced parts it has lasted well and it’s great that we can actually get spares for it.

Doggyride is another good make but slightly lighter built, they have quite a few options on theirs available.

For light use though the generic eBay ones are actually quite OK.

But I cannot get 4 labradors in any of these!

For an average Labrador x 4 you’d need to go to Ifor Williams.

You may fit 2 in a Croozer XL space wise if they were small working types but you’d be over the weight limit for sure and stopping all that weight on a push bike isn’t too safe. 2 bikes with a trailer each maybe ?

😂 very funny. No they are not used to trailers of any sort. Only two will be traveling with us. I’ll have a house sitter for the rest , including cats, other dogs and llamas.

2 you might squeeze into a larger dog trailer, would be a bit tough uphill though.

Use this regularly, its very safe as you have your whole body weight on the saddle stem , unlike the lead in hand on the handlebars kamikaze method.
Took our dog on training rides ( 25 yards) first when she was young and she knows ‘ left , right , stop and ‘over’
She never goes faster than gentle trot and always carry water/ small first aid kit .
Just need to pick your route carefully , and avoid other dog owners with them there clicky leads , that could end badly.

We have one of these for Shadow, who sadly we no longer have

Expensive but worth every penny

We‘re “definitely not getting another GSD“ yet we have kept his trailer!

GSDs eh .
I know that feeling, we were never having another either as we’d had the best…

until we went to ‘just look’ at puppies..
Here she is now

I’ve never thought of carrying a doggy first aid kit (I presume you meant a doggy one) but it’s a good idea - what do you put in - purple spray and … ??

Grianan , Its a small kit. One lint bandage, one lint dressing, a tick remover, a sealed tube distilled water, ( eye injury and wound wash) antiseptic spray.
If you have a local provider of dog first aid courses I can highly recommend them, its an afternoon well spent, they are an eye opener , learning how to deal with all the common ailments in the field , dog choking on ball, stick injury, ticks, fits, dehydration, eye injury, epilepsy , cuts , breaks, wounds, resus, snakebite etc
( never chuck sticks for dogs, dreadful injuries from them running on to them in their mouths)
Worth a few quid, hope that is helpful
👍🐕
