Hi folks, new user pondering UK campervan touring.

I'll spare you the medical details but unfortunately I spend a fair bit of time daily on the loo, enough to far exceed any cassette based loo capacity in short order.

I have dreams of seeing the country a little but such dreams pend on building an affordable van to suite my access requirements with a large a accessible bathroom with bidet and perhaps a 200L or so black waste tank to cover all eventualities.

Does the UK have sites where you can drive up to dump locations and pump out your black tanks like the US etc?

we carry a spare cassette and have never not found anywhere to empty it when required which is at least once a day, i have not seen any sites with drive up black emptying but i am sure there must be some.
The easiest method is just to keep a spare cassette (just in case) and empty when needed even if it's multiple times a day.

with a macerator pump, yes.. all sites have elsan points for black waste..
when we had the RV with a 50gal back tank we used a macerator with a long discharge hose.

if you mean drop by gravity, no, not many, but there are some.
To cover all eventualities, you need to fit a macerator.. and pray.

Excellent, was planning on a macerator pump anyway.

What I didn't know was if UK sites where setup where you could park at the disposal point and pump it out Vs need to take a cassette on foot.

You've given me hope.

We have a black tank and not really been aware of any issues, plenty of rallies and THS just lift a manhole for cassette dump so as long as you have a bit of pipe you can dump just the same as they do, most campsites now have a drive over motorhome waste point and very few of these will not be connected to main sewer but worth an ask, as a black tank has many times the capacity of even two cassettes you can always find a facility at your next stop so I have never seen an issue.

yes, you can generally drive up fairly close.. I had a 25mt 1" discharge pipe that served most places

When you fit the system you will have a choice of whether to fit a macerating toilet or a simple drop it into a tank, the first option will allow you to gravity dump with a short length of hose, the second option means that you will always need to "pump out" with the macerator, of course you could have both and then you have the option to empty the black tank "uphill" I do know some people with this set up but rarely if ever used.

another alternative, employed before the macerator, was a waste hog.. but heavy to lift if the dump point is above ground level..

and before the waste hog... a plastic bucket... but that is really smelly..

Amazing thanks everyone,

I was planning on a macerator loo + bidet unit and another macerator pump for emptying. A second exit port for gravity dumping would add a layer of redundancy in the system that greatly appeals.

I think I've got what I needed to know :)

Campra have 136 sites, most of which might help.

The trouble with Campra is that they seem to have a design for elsan waste disposal point which is raised off the ground and they make no attempt to accommodate black tank users, a better resource might be funster ceejayt has a useful map showing ground level dumps, this can be accessed via his signature strip.

Apologies, I didn't know :(

Link fir black tank emptying in the signature strip below.

If anyone would like to send me the location of more sites UK and Europe I will gladly add them to the map
No link visible here?

optionThere's another (expensive)
Saw that a couple of days ago on tv, can’t remember which programme. Man showed how it worked. You put a liner in loo bowl which collects the poo/wee, then system reduces it to very small amount of ash.

There are those on here who would delight in discussing those medical details. Spare not the rod! :giggle:

Most campsites that have 'drive-over' waste points are only for grey not black waste. A fair number don't even have that.
Usually when I ask about that they say it's because there is a grid over and they don't want wet wipes, paper and even worse things sitting there, I have never been told that the grey goes to a different treatment plant, aften they have a manhole cover you can lift and then watch it go down the same drain as the drive over "grey point".
