My sister is looking to buy a van and wants to have a drive of mine to see how she copes with the size and a manual gearbox.
She has fully comp insurance on her car.
Would she be covered to drive mine or would I need to name her on my insurance policy ?

Your van needs to be insured, her insurance needs to cover her to drive any vehicle with owners consent. If that is all ok she will have 3rd party only cover to drive your van

How heavy is the van. Make sure her 3rd party cover is sufficient and she has a valid license for the vehicle weight and driving a manual gearbox.

The van is 3,400kgs.
Her license has C1, which at 3,400kgs she doesn't actually need, and she can drive manual and automatic.

Have you considered this type of cover

A lot can happen in 30 minutes. Remember its only 3rd party cover so no cover for your van if it's damaged.

How much to add her to your insurance?

At renewal, it cost £14 to add Mrs CAB's sister.

Until a few weeks ago, I was under the misunderstanding that my Fully Comprehensive insurance covered me to drive any other insured vehicle and be covered by Third party insurance (just like the old days).
Now, as was mentioned on this forum, some do and some do not! 😢
Always check the small print. 🤔

My fully comprehensive car insurance allows me to drive any vehicle with the owners permission with 3rd party cover only. My fully comprehensive motorhome insurance does not allow me to drive another vehicle and is mentioned specifically as an exclusion.

If they're both with the same company, it makes the situation crazy because it means you can drive someone else's M/H, third party, on your car insurance!
