Hello, does anyone use Sygic truck satnav? And is it any good?

Yes I use the Truck Caravan version on an iPad dash mounted. Rate it above all others I’ve tried.

Was using Sygic Truck Caravan version while Trimble initially ballsed up Copilot when they took it over but have reverted back to Copilot now it is back to as good as it was.
I still have Sygic on our MH headunit as a backup satnav. Not saying its no good, just that I prefer Copilot.

Have you put your dimensions in and does it avoid narrow lanes and low bridges?
Yes I’ve put my dimensions in, and can’t think of a time where it has taken us the wrong way.

I‘ve also tried copilot but its not for me.

I've got Sygic Truck installed on a tablet. But it's a backup as I mainly use Google Maps with android auto on my dash radio. I much prefer Google Maps. It's very rare that vehicle dimensions make a difference to routing. And the mapping in Sygic uses (TomTom) isn't perfect anyway. I've found several mistakes.

Yeah I’ve just read the reviews for copilot, not very good.
Thanks for your reply. I think I’ll invest in a iPad and use Sygic.

Yeah I currently use Google Maps and Waze . Waze to avoid LEZ’s but I’m keen to use a mapping system that you can enter vehicle dims , I have been caught out a couple of times with Google and Waze with some tight lanes, not just the single traffic sort I mean the ones where you have to fold in the mirrors and hope 😡

Been using Sygic for a few years and like all satnav apps it's ok, but remember just use with a dose of common sense.

Currently have an issue with my maps renewal. Paid for the 3 year upgrade in February from the Sygic link via the Google App store but can't download any maps. Sygic claim claim they have no knowledge of the payment even though I've provided them the subscription link from Google App store confirming payment was made. Google don't want to know so have started a S75 claim with credit card used to make the payment.

Based on my recent experiences it a definite no from me.

Not withstanding your current issues with subscription the mapping service was okay. So recommended regarding satnav element?

I paid for Sygic and it suddenly wiped everything from my phone, Sygic didn’t want to know and the only correspondence was I need to pay again.🤣

Set of jokers in my opinion. Whilst we did use it, it took us wrong a few times too although anything is better than google maps.

I've used sygic for a while and it is OK, seems to struggle when set to avoid tolls, still seems to end up on them.

I have recently used a trial of copilot which I liked as it seemed clearer but for those using it, is there any way to actually show traffic on toads as opposed to just a bar at the side? Would also be nice to display current speed like most sat nav.

Exactly what happened to me🤬🤬

Don’t pay full price. They are constantly having sales on with it going down to half price on occasions

5 or 6 years ago when I first bought the Sygic app I found their customer service was good when I was having trouble using their Chrome browser extension to transfer routes planned in Google Maps over to the Sygic satnav, but this time last year I took up their price reduced offer of the live traffic option, but never received the link to install it.
After several attempts and getting no replies back from Sygic's customer service, I had to get my money refunded back via PayPal.

Producing a satnav to avoid narrow lanes is really hard.

First issue is that there's not any good data. It's not easy to map. The actual width of the tarmac is only one factor. A narrow lane isn't too bad if it's empty, but becomes a bear when it's busier.
Single track with good passing points is a lot easier than a narrow lane with blind corners and high and close hedges.

It's also very sensitive to vehicle size. A few cm of vehicle width can make a massive difference on how easy lanes are to navigate. But again, that data is hard to collect and is different for every lane.

There are very few roads that your van legally can't travel down. And the campsite might only accessible via a narrow lane, so your satnav can't avoid them altogether. People argue that if you can get a bus down there, a standard Moho shouldn't be an issue, but it can be.

Finally, there's bad traffic and journey time data on narrow lanes. If they aren't travelled as often, the satnav can't tell how congested they are. So a long queue in a town could be avoided by ducking down a lane. But nobody with your brand of satnav has driven down it for an hour, so it doesn't know or not if there's a massive clog there too.

Narrow lanes are hard. I'm not convinced any satnav does them well, other than preventing you from going through legal width restrictions. And even then, I've found several locations where the mapping was incorrect.

I have co pilot and Osmand. Took a while to set up Osmand, and I paid the 9.99 for additional maps. I am tending to use Osmand more, and it seems to send me on larger roads than co pilot, which I prefer. Osmand doesn't natively have campsites that are in co pilot, or as many postcode addresses as co pilot. However, as previously suggested routing seems safer to me and so far Osmand hasn't sent me down any narrow roads

Update on my missing Sygic map update.

After Google App Store not wanting to know and Sygic ignoring me since I paid for the 3 year map updates in February and not being able to download the maps I started S75 credit card claim last week. Lo and behold, today I received an email from Sygic advising that I had map upgrades!!

Call me cynical but, the threat by my Credit Card company of a chargeback claim, appears to have jogged Sygic's memory that I am and have been a paying customer and I do expect to be provided the service and goods I have paid for!!

Well done, I paid by debit card and Sygic robbed me I never got anywhere so gave up, everything was wiped from my phone and Sygic just wanted me to pay again.

You can show current speed at bottom right, touch the box and select what you want to display

Just gone into it and it already shows the speed, I'm sure it wasn't there before, be nice to see traffic on the map, as well as sidebar.

Example of mapping issues... A right turn out of a t-junction near me has been closed since the pandemic. It started as a temporary change, but it's been permanent and bollarded off for over a year. Sygic (TomTom mapping) still doesn't know about it. Google did within days. To me, quality of basic mapping is far more crucial than knowing about a few width restrictions.

Some of you that use the Sygic satnav may not be aware that you can use Google Maps on a PC to plan your route and then at the press of a button have your route transferred to your Sygic satnav and it will also make any adjustments to your route to suit your vehicle profile dimensions.

Thanks, that’s really interesting, not for IOS yet though which is disappointing.

Garmin Dezl Camper Deluxe all day long. Made a huge difference taking a lot of stress out of travelling when I had an 8m + bikes on the back. I just set a 4T profile and it takes the truck routes where possible. Simple to switch to 3.5T profile to compare the route also. This has been better than tomtom and google maps for me. It is quite old now so not sure how the new ones compare but I guess they have the same underlying maps. You can also pre-plan if you wish in the garmin pc/mac software but I've never done that, although you an see where you've been when you plug it back in to it.

I use Sygic Caravan version. Overall happy with it but it's not the most intuitive software. (Or it's because I expect everything to work like Google) It's cheap compared to other systems, but needs a tablet or similar to run it on, which we had. I still use Google maps, depending on the journey - Sygic for first times and Google when I know the route but want to be notified about changing traffic conditions and re-routes as I believe it's better for that.

Google has far better mapping and far better traffic data. And it's far easier to make an informed snap decision about whether to change your mind about taking a turn because the alternatives and if it's going to cost you extra time are shown at pretty much every junction.

I've also got Sygic as a backup on a tablet. But Google Maps (via Android Auto) is my default. The Sygic tablet only comes out as a second opinion if I'm going somewhere I suspect will have trickier roads. But it's very rare that it makes any difference.
