Too long
Just changed Motorhomes and am now the proud owner of a Thule Residence room, I believe that’s the model.
It seems very substantial looking at the alloys sections etc but obviously not a 5 minute job to erect so presumably more for long stay as opposed to a few days maybe.
Does anyone still have/still use one ?

We had one in the early days but unless we were staying onsite for 5 days or more so never used it. It was heavy and big. We tend to move around in our van every couple of days so use the wind out with some Windblockers either end if needed.
That said, our first van was a 6m and we went on longer holidays with our 3 children. We stayed longer and used to put up the inner tent for 2 of the kids to sleep in which did work well at the time. Try it and see what you think. 😊

We have the Dometic version same as Fiamma, use ours most trips, takes about 45mins to erect, great addition to space

I have a Panorama room. Not too bad putting up & taking down if there are more than one of you.
Doubles the space available.

We bought one for our first van used it twice to much effort for us a quest pop up is a better thing for us but some people seem to like them, ours was a Fiamma zip very sturdy and heavy.

I tend to agree, mine is really meant for long stays and more suited for more than two people. There is only two of us and we have managed so far with the wind out awning and wind stoppers when needed.
So I guess it will be appearing in the classified ads shortly.

Had one for my previous van and at one stage made some enquiries about it here after part exchanging the van. (The crowd I part exchanged with weren’t interested either - “better to sell privately”. Hah)

Big bulky item that took up garage space so eventually it had to go.

Even the awning places weren’t interested in taking it, even as a part exchange.

As it was an awkward spec - 5m length, maximum height etc - I gave up on anyone wanting it, so took it to the recycling centre.

It was a bit of a shame as they’re expensive items and it was in mint condition.

But while I had it it was useful if I parked up for a week or two. Too much trouble for shorter stays.

Had one for the kontiki and fortunately it fits the frankia.
As said, takes about 40 minutes after practice.
Don't use if fewer than 3 days
Must not use if windy

V useful space today as dog can sleep there despite being soaked

We have a Fiamma Safari room which I think is great but is now also not used. More a case of not having the payload anymore rather than inconvenience. We used it regularly when staying from a long weekend up to a couple of weeks. Took about an hour to get it pitched and kitted out. Next came Windblockers to use with the wind out part of the Safari room. A lot lighter and takes just over half the time to put up but is not as secure or as cosy. Then the Quest pop-up came which is a doddle to erect in about 20 mins including pegging. Much smaller and has the inconvenience of having to go outside from the van to enter it which is not great if it is raining. I prefer the space and convenience of the two rooms but the Quest has the edge if it's only for 1/2 nights.

PS We have used the full Safari room in gale force winds without any problems. Wouldn't use the Windblockers in those conditions. The Quest will flex and unless a pole snaps will be OK.

If you stay in one place they are brilliant.

When I had a caravan I got an awning and the annexe was great for the kids. On our main summer holidays the space it gave was amazing and we had the table and chairs setup in there. Was proper luxury camping with space.

However we used to stay for 3 weeks. Once it’s up, they are great, putting them up is a pain, they are heavy and bulky, taking them down is a pain, the biggest pain is drying them after as it rarely went away dry.

If you stay put, great, if not, nope.

I don’t think they generally suit motorhomes unless you tow a car and leave it somewhere a lot.
