Does anyone know whats happening with Shell Island

Its a lovely place if you get a quiet spot, gets somewhat cut off by the tide when it comes in.
can get rowdy with the BH crew but is easy to access the lanes arent a problem for my 7.5m van
whats the BH crew ?

bank holiday camping crew, tents and fires
Just booked for the Bank holiday they say they are limiting numbers so fingers crossed not too full. Never been as long as I can walk on the beach and read a book everything will be fine :sun:

What's so good about it? It looks a shocking narrow lane to get there.
26 tonne bin lorry gets down there every day.

The space and the views. Once you ve booked in they leave you alone, you can park pretty much where you like, face whichever way you choose, (no peg nazis) and if there is a group of you you can easily setup together and there s enough room you re not going to annoy anyone.

Just be aware they frown on organised groups so don't try to organise a rally. But they of course cannot stop you parking wherever you want (subject to the usual current restrictions), just don't get too rowdy.

We made the mistake of visiting on a Bank Holiday - never, never, ever again!

thanks as I have just booked the bank holiday, I did not realise that it was so commercial thought that it was more nature. not to worry if I don't like it I have wheels and will move.

You can usually find somewhere away from people, its huge just keep going.

Agreed TerryL , It was a little ambiguous, I was talking about a few friends not a rally.

We went for an Easter bank holiday a few years ago. It may be huge, but it can still fill up! There aren't that many facilities and they get overwhelmed pretty quickly.

I can imagine it'd be really nice pretty much any other time of year though.

get there as early as you can and try for a pitch down one of the corner bottom fields, the general idea i take is turn right on your way in and not left as far over to the left toward the dunes is where they usually put the tents and fire lighting brigade. Weed can be the aroma over that way ::bigsmile:

When it is not Bank Hol etc there are plenty places you can pitch and feel almost alone, I like the 2nd filed on the right as you turn in and then right down to the mound at the edge of the field, 10yds over that mound in the inlet estuary nice and clean / calm where I enjoy a chilly morning dip with my dogs.

We have been going for year's absolutely love it as long as you don't go bank holidays or school Holidays it can be idilic there s everything you want, but do go with enough provisions as if you don't have a car or a bike it's a good walk to the village although their shop is pretty well stocked up, and of course apart from a cycle way where you can get off the island at high tide it is an island and you are cut off. When you get to the beach if you turn right you will find all sorts of shells.
They have a 20 metre rule unless you are with friends so you have a good size pitch and can park in the woods by the harbour in the sand dunes or by the beach..
Like everywhere are it is weather dependent you get good weather and it is amazing you get a week of wet weather not quite so.

Thanks Carol and Broken Link Removed as I am still a wage slave, so it is the bank holiday that I have booked but I am hoping that they will still be regulating numbers. It will be the first time out to try out the new solar panels if they are working they seem to flash strange lights. I will not arrive until the Friday after work which is a bummer but it is what it is I do appreciate all the advice of where to hide away from the dope and the best parking I usually travel light food wise and buy fresh on arrival but I will stock up on route. and if I miss judge the amount I need and may run out it will not do me any harm to reduce the portion sizes *:giggle:

I am starting to regret to impulse decision but heyho an experience is an experience and I am sure that I will enjoy it and it does not do any harm to mix with various people. I can still remember when we were the youngsters having fires on the beach (more beer than weed though - honest)

You’ll be fine, I have been there when it was fully booked and thought to myself that there was plenty of space.
If you haven’t been there before leave the van at reception and take a walk about the place and get a feel as to where you want to park up.
Turning right at the top of the ramp would be good advice tho.
I’ve been several times and never had an issue other than to keep the noise down after whatever time which we did even tho we had a party of 10 adults and 4 or 5 kids
