Does anyone have a W10 OS?

CD or licence number. It's to replace Windows Vista on an old laptop, since there is no upgrade facility available. It's only got 2gb memory, but a nice 500gb SSD, It just might run, I hear that the newer W10 uses less memory. Just might be worth a go.

It will be painfully slow with 2gb you really need 8gb.
Lynux would be a better be the Mint versions are very similar to windows.

2Gb RAM is the bare minimum for 64bit Win 10 and as Lenny says it will be like walking through treacle.

Would agree you should try Mint, probably Xfce, as it's the least resource intensive.

SandraL has pointed you in the direction of the lowest (reliable) cost access to Windows 10 I've found but would try Linux first.

It was an old promo when I used it for my MIL but Windows 10 was free if you assisted technology.

From this article that route has def. ended. But maybe there's another way in that article.
Ultimately, there'll be a Linux distro with a lower spec requirement that may work better for you.

is there a simple oso type file for linux mint, had a look around but evrything i have tried has failed to boot up linux of any sort, the language used in 99% of the webs help pages assumes its grommet on the other end.
theres got to be a download and click version by now, if not i fear Linux has missed a trick

Its not just the memory which is way too low to use W10 but whether your laptop will support W10 anyway, one of my older HPs won't so I've got 7 on that and it works fine, perhaps give that a go?

You could always try Android its free and you can if you wish run it from a memory stick. Its a much lighter operating system and if your happy using an android phone you will already be familiar with it.

I have windows programs, sorry, apps, such a office, photoshop, coral draw, quark express and such on this old machine. W7 I've thought about, but didn't much like it and some apps' support is due to be withdrawn so don't see much point. Of main interest is the antivirus, I have Kaspersky3 machine license valid 2 years, but it no longer supports Vista, so I wasted my money, except it does work on my other laptop which runs 10.

It runs so well with the fast new SSHD so I thought it might compensate. I think the old laptop will only take 2gb memory, so can't upgrade that.

Don't think it works with anything Windows older than 7. OP currently has Vista installed.

Thanks guys, I guess stay as it is, am using Avira instead of Kasperski but that says it will withdraw support for Vista soon.

Just this min finished installing w10 Home 32 bit via ISO download (Free) to my old Dell was running Vista 2 GB processor 80 Gig standard Hdd
It runs albeit at its own pace its exeptable if there were no other option
tried all the micky mouse keys non worked

Can either buy legit key already done for W10 64 bit as suggested by Gellyneck above
Or try android

As said above Linux is the way to go, I put it on an old laptop, works a treat and free.
