1989 Hymer 644
We have a 1989 Hymer B644 which we bought as a refurbishment project. Everything seems to be going fine at the moment but after having removed the overhead bed in order to replace the vinyl above the front windscreen, we now realise that we should have taken photographs of the bed set-up as we can't remember how to put it back together. It is not a problem getting it back in through the side door (we didn't have remove the windscreen), but we can't work out how to reassemble the struts. We would appreciate it if someone has some knowledge or photos to point us in the right direction.

Regards,
Tsmee

Welcome, have you tried Hymer forums on Facebook etc, you may find someone with a similar model locally who would let you look at theirs.

I repaired a Hymer overhead bed for a fried some years ago and attach a photo that might help.

You can enlarge and crop to see how the mechanism is fastened.

Hope this helps.

Cheers

You will need to have the bed virtually flush to the roof before you can get the struts reattached, it is impossible to close them by hand

Personally I would fit new struts while you have them off, Sod’s Law and all that 🤔🙄👍
