When travelling abroad do we have to take original documents (log book , insurance cert , etc ) or are photo copies valid ?

Never took my log book, just a full colour copy.
That's reasonable proof of keepership to any judge. Also i take copies of passports, apparently it's much easier to get a new one if stolen/lost

French law demands proof of ownership, not 'keepership'.

I suspect most gendarmerie will accept V5c but maybe not all.

I carry all originals.

The V5c is pretty useless then

That's why I said keepership... 🤔 If it's a word 😁

In that case a v5 is no good and a bill of sale would be required.

I doubt many carry such a document.

One more question - do you bother with a international driving permits ?

I doubt whether many people have one, never mind carry it.

How many dealers execute one? I would demand one - to prove title had passed to me, as an invoice/receipt would not be as good evidence.

I bought my MH privately from a Police Sargeant and he knew the ropes and had no problem with signing the one I presented.

Oddly, just returned from Malaga (flying). Hired a car on line as I normally do, £70 for a week, and I use a uk policy for CDW.

Man at desk requests an IDP, I say not required for UK in Spain as per UK government website.

Man says IDP or no car referencing insurance. Smugly I say, ' I don't want your CDW, I have my own'

Man says 'No car, but if you take our full CDW @ €180 then you can take car .

Steam out of ears (but it's in their T&C for non euro license holders) but who reads the small print?

It was off airport so little chance of getting another car easily so forked out.

Interestingly, on return to UK and looked at getting an IDP incase of future issues. Turns out there are different variants for different countries, and if you enter Spain on the gov or post office website it returns not required! So which variant do you get?

Emailed the comparison website with the issue but as expected no response to date.
