Do you think your motorhome will go the distance….

My 2011 Fiat Ducato comformatic with 134k drives like new, I look at old vans parked up on my travels especially old fiats and they seem to be going well for there owners. Some are well worn and some even abused but still going…

I can imagine mine going for some time as it’s in very good condition underneath (undersealed) but with the dubious comformatic I don’t know…
I do try and look after everything though especially the mechanicals and service every year regardless… I do intend to keep this one till death do us part…🙂

How far in life do you think yours will go if you keep it that long….🤔
We have done around 110
30 in France rest in uk
Fortunately retired!

I've never had one, just read about it somewhere but I think it's on the rear somewhere, perhaps gus-lopez might know more?
Not all Alko rear axle have nipples, Mine on a 2008 definitely hasn’t any, I have rebuilt the brakes and hub bearings with new rear shock and Dunlop air suspension so very familiar with the axel,
But indeed most do so worth checking out,

I recently watched a youtube video, it was a scottish garage owner who specialises in Alko tortion bar axel repairs. He showed where he puts in new grease nipple points in the centre of the torsio bar areas, which he says "where they should be"

i'll see if i can find it

Mine doesn’t have nipples either, I was maybe contemplating a rear axle overhaul with Fraser Brown and having the nipples put in just for futureproofing🤔🤔

Same here but i do worry about the comfortmatic. I've started a comfortmatic fund where I put money away each month in case of a big bill. This was instead of buying a warranty.
Have you had to change the clutch yet at that mileage?

As far as the history that I have it’s not had anything major to it at all, I only had the comformatic oil change done at Adam’s Moray at the beginning of the year at 130k I think and they said the oil look ok coming out..🤞🏼

I think the vans that get driven don’t have so many problems and also I got the 3ltr with chain drive as my investigations let me to believe that the 3ltr was less troublesome then the 2.3 on the comformatic…🤔

I have had mine for 35 years this coming April. Still going strong. A Talbot express.

Ours will be 33 in a few weeks.
We haven't even got Lithium, how on earth do we manage?

This was a few years ago with Russia across the river.

We did think we'd go there one year but certainly won't now.

Had mine 9 years in march..28000k when I bought it..82000k now..2002 reg..Been virtually trouble free..Fitted Compressor fridge and had it re-upholstered..Who will last the longest ?me..80 next or the van?? BUSBY

Ours is a 2006 Hymer Tramp on a Renault with a 3 ltr engine and a chain thingie 🤣. That's about the limit of my knowledge. Martin says it drives really well.

We bought it totally by chance after seeing it parked on a nearby carpark with a for sale sign in the window. We paid a very good price for it and now it really owes us nothing. It had around 43,000 km on the clock and now it's got over 200,000. We've had a few breakdowns over the years, the worst, for expense, was in Norway, but adding all these expenses, it's still been an extremely good purchase and, although we keep muttering about changing it, it's layout suits our present lifestyle, so, when we can spare some downtime for it, we're going to treat it to a partial makeover (Spanish sun is damaging to paintwork) and keep enjoying it.

200k any advance on 200k miles...... I think we have a winner, and it's a Renault....

I know there are many vans on this forum that have over 200k miles on their vans, I hope they reply and tell us the cost of keeping them on the road, good or bad..🤔

Saw a Talbot Peugeot at Tees Barrage last week. It was on an L (1993) plate and looked immaculate. 35 years would make yours a but older but just wondering if it might have been you?

We bought ours new just before lockdown so couldn’t collect it for several months, I’m glad we did though as they shot up in price pretty quick. Now we’ve retired we’re hoping to get a lot more use out of it. Mileage is just under 23000 miles and currently in Spain so a few miles will be added before Xmas.
We have the comformatic box and although I’ve heard all the stories my thoughts are it would probably cost us £30k or more for the same van in auto or manual, as that’s the only reason I’d change it I’m quite happy to take my chances. The van is serviced year and I’ve had the comfortmatic oil done too, as I have 14 years until a medical is required for C1 it should last until then at least.

Just coming up to our 2 year anniversary in our first ever van (2021 Florium, bought second hand) , and there's not a thing about it we don't like. We love the layout and the comfort, and I love driving it. Can't imagine getting rid of it unless it somehow turns into a dog. We try to go away at least every 2 weeks, all year round, rain or shine, even if it's not far from home. Just returned from a rather windy weekend on the Welsh border. Sometimes I wish it was LHD, sometimes I wish it was an auto, but never enough to consider changing.

It it built to last, though? Guess time will tell. I do see a handful of "vintage" Fleurette/Floriums on my travels, mostly in Europe, so unless they have joined the race to the bottom in the unseen bits, I have hope.

Sorry but no . Mine is a 1990 Elddis 400 autoquest. And we have just come back from a 8 week trip to Portugal. Down to the Algarve. But it is nice to see the old ones still going. And thanks for asking

I think I have spent about £5.000. Over the last 5 years. But until then very little before that. That was quite a bit on the engine after blowing the head gasget. And a new clutch And that is all
Not bad for 30 years .then all that spread over the last 5 years and the old girl has now done 99
000. And had a trouble free 8 week holiday down to Portugal .So still happy with it

If it works and is 95% perfect or above then don't change it.

You'll regret it if you do.

I've had so many vans because circumstances changed or the van was lacking something. I'm hoping I've now got that 95% van , or will have once I've changed/ improved the few things I want to
