Do you bother with your satellite dish anymore?

I like to view the daily news, and Moto GP bike sport in particular
so BT sport is needed,
Like many on here , do not know what streaming is,
I just press the dish button, wait for the "found" signal,
and sit back and relax, why would anyone want anything more.

depends where you are, if in the UK or northern France you will be fine below that it is likely ( unless you have a 1meter dish on the roof ) that you will not get all you want.

We never seem to get the hang of any technology. The radio in the van cuts in and out as we drive along. Never get good tv reception in the van or at home. The tv at home has a mind of its own , it can be on Yorkshire today, Birmingham tomorrow or even the Isle of Man. It’s pot luck. We just accept it as normal now.

Don’t know about the three datasim but the normal pay as you go three sim has just started working on 4G this week.
Just tried my mifi with Three datasim, still only 3G but might be down to my location in Spain though I'm getting 4G on my phone through Plusnet, will try again when we move on (y)

Mine works in moriara.
3G was very weak now 4G very fast. Working on movistar and yoigo

Not possible to get FTA Sat TV in Southern Europe so that's out. Don't rate Sky TV as wife can't get Coronation Street or The Voice on Sky One! Streaming requires dedicated 2mb/s and you'll be lucky to get that on most sites so that's also out. You can't rent DVDS anymore so that's out as well. However you can Torrent programs on quite slow wifi via a Tablet or Laptop eg u torrent and a Magnet link. So that's the way to go for us. Plus reading a good book and playing Scrabble.

Normally wouldn't bother but this van came with an Oyster system ,but no reciever when I first got it so I put one in from old van .
worked ok out and about a few times then off to Spain and didn't lock on .
So went back to streaming and hdmi multi media player.
Not locking on now so just pm'd Anthony at oyster tech .

If it can't be updated it will be coming off the van at some stage.
Anybody identify the unit ,no name at all.

I don't use mine any more but then I never did. Never felt the need for a TV in the van especially now that we have lap tops to play with....;)

I had the same one.
Oyster version 1
To get it on Astra 2.
First Get it to lock on Astra 1.
Once locked on.
Then turn your Satellite receiver on select sky news.
Then switch to manual search on the oyster
Move dish down 4 clicks left 6 clicks.
Then it should lock onto Astra 2.

Freeview or mifi, haven't used the manual Maxview dish for years.

In that case it looks like the datasims are still restricted to 3G as it was through Movistar :(

What a shambles! Some would never have anything else, some have no idea, some can get nothing to work, some love the jargon, some are in southern Europe, some never leave the UK. I wish I knew what would work for me. And this thread don't help!

We've got an 85cm Oyster on the current MH. Had Snipes on our previous two caravans. However, as we're on the North Wales coast this evening and the wind is at warp factor 3 the dish is firmly closed.. its RF tonight. However, I do have an unlimited 4G data allowance with 3, so used that for The Grand Tour.

Occassionaly watch tv using satellite. Mainly watch from USB stick or Netflix which we stream on wife three mobile which uses no data thanks to go binge
Hi, your set up sounds interesting, please could you provide more detail of the kit that you are using; do you have a 4G roof aerial? Thanks

Have watched film on Netflix for most of the last 2 weeks and used no data on iPad Pro just have a 10gb sim on 3 with go binge, mostly on 3G as haven’t had any 4g in France yet can take a while to load but never had any buffering whilst watching.

Netflix supplied by grandson just love him

Oyster dish with sky box works all over Europe for me most of the time, BBC and itv sometimes is hit and miss. My son bought me a fire stick and said that would work anywhere so I plugged it into my TVs and tethered it to my iPad so my wife could watch one of her precious bloody soaps and for a half hour program it used 4 gig, so it's now back in its box.

Something amiss with your firestick settings. Ours used about 4 gb in about 4 hours in Spain last month. IPlayer uses slightly more for some reason, but not 4gb in 30 minutes!

can someone tell me what is" mifi" all this talk of wizardry is confusing the s**t out of me.

A router that uses a data SIM.
Put a SIM in it and connect to a network like you would in a phone. It then acts like your WiFi router at homes, gives out a WiFi signal that you can connect your devices to.

Forgot to mention we stream to tv using Chromecast
Can even use it when not on EHU as just use a usb cable to power it into charging port I installed at back of van and a nice long usb cable

Nice to learn something new. Have just ordered Chromecast and looking forward to the inevitable techno struggle!

My dish give me reception when there is no or slow wifi , and the boss wont go anywhere without her full Sky package :yawn:
I have to plug my arial cable into tv/van to get tv as have never managed to get anything via satellite but perhaps I am doing something wrong? How do you get Sky?

Ignore my earlier post, I don’t have a satellite dish! :giggler::lipssealed:

Eyetv and an iPad work well in the U.K. but no knowledge of how it performs abroad.
