I have always done my own servicing after having very poor service at a garage with many items paid for not done.
My current motorhome is a Hymer, Fiat, Ducato, 2012, 150 Multijet 2.3 D as in my picture. I service it every year and have had no problems doing what is in the handbook and more but at shorter intervals than recommended.
However, I was slightly told off when I had Air Suspension fitted because I had not been lubricating the Alco Chassis torsion bars which I had heard was needed but totally forgot about at servicing time.
So, do any of you mechanics or enthusiastic DIYers have a Servicing Check-list for the Ducato they can share please. As there may be other things I have been forgetting and my memory is not what it was, not that it was much good before.
A couple of other questions: When should brake disks be changed? I checked the dimensions at last service which were OK but not sure how much of a lip is allowed.
I buy my oil and filters from Opie Oils where do others buy brake pads and should they be a specific make or are generic ones ok? I have never had a problem stopping but I did get a lot of heating when touring Norway.

Yes I’ve used Opie for years. Love the smell of their complimentary air fresheners. 🥰

Service areas you may not have thought of:
  • Differential oil
  • Gearbox oil and filter
  • Brake/clutch fluid
  • Coolant level and age
  • Visual brake discs and pads inspection
  • Hard brake lines (corrosion hotspots)
  • Soft brake lines
  • Exhaust rubber mounts
  • Visual check for any minor oil leaks, bell housing, back of block, inlet manifold and turbo being important areas
  • Gear linkages inspection
  • Wheel bearing check
  • Tyre condition check whilst spinning and rocking bearings
  • Drop links and ball ends, pry bar helps a lot
  • Boots and gaitor condition, splits etc
  • Wiring and wiring rubber grommets
It’s not an exhaustive list, but it’s the kind of things I look over when servicing.

Thanks very much, I will add some of those to my list.

I use Opie when in the Uk & down in Devon.
but not sure how much of a lip is allowed.
What I do is grind or file the lip off both sides then measure the thickness with calipers. google on line what the minimu thickness is & change when below that.

I use Autodoc .UK when in the uk & Autodoc .es when at home here. Same account.bought pads, discs front & rear, half shafts, bushes, seals, wheel bearings & hubs ,etc, Never had a problem

Something to keep on top of is the correct adjustment of the park brake. Many just forget, or choose to not bother, as it is a pain to get to.

Other items I would check are EGR valve, the MAP and MAF sensors. They need to be kept clean

Just looked at Autodoc.co.uk and they seem so cheap but so many makes and types for each part. For example Front pads by Rydex=£15 by Bosch=£31 likewise with disks etc. How do you choose? Anybody suggest a preferred make for pads & disks?
Interesting though that they can bring the vehicle details up by Reg No where nobody else manages. But it says Fiat Ducato Minibus whereas I would have thought for an A-class it would have been a chassis cab.

That's because it's only mentioned in the Al-Ko book, not part of Ducato or hab service.

But an experance motorhomer like you Steve should know better. 🤣

You have been very lucky to get away with it that long.

I live only 3 miles from Opie oils, they do other service items such as filters pads disks and such… I get all my stuff from there and I know the lads well and always get a good discount…😎

I now do the services on our 2014 2.3 150 Fiat based Hymer but I’ve yet to tackle the clutch/brake fluid, I’m bothered about clutch bit of this and I won’t be tackling the cambelt change.

Not sure if it's the same on the 2.3, but on the 3.0 you need to reset both the service and oil change flags in the ECU.

If this doesn't happen the ECU thinks the oil is old and won't complete regen's on the cat.

Cheers
Red.
