Does anyone have a tips or suggestions for getting an accurate reading on a ducato engine oil dip stick ?
The stick seems to drag on the tube collecting oil and making a reading guesswork.
I did a oil and filter change, filled with just over 5 liters, ran engine, topped up to 5.7 litres capacity.
Since then the dash display keeps saying it's under maximum by one bar.

Obviously I don't want to overfill, but never had this problem previously
An accurate dipstick reading would be useful

TIA

There is a bend in the tube and I think the stick only goes in two ways, needing a 180' rotation between each.
I'll leave it overnight to let the oil settle completely
Thanks 👍

I can’t help on the question but was scrolling through the forum with Caz and she took one look at the title and said I was qualified enough to answer that one.
Yip, I only opened the thread as I thought he was trying to attract my attention!

What a waste of time that was! Techie question way beyond my "expertise"!

Pure luxury you have a dipstick, none on our Ducato.

Previous Ducato's 1 bar down is about right better than overfilling, they don't take kindly to that.

Until today, I thought one had a physical dipstick OR virtual dash readout but not both.
Another school day! 🤔

Damn, I thought this was about the Labour govt. and wondered why it wasn't in the Belly Locker.

Yes I have a dash display and a real genuine dip stick 🤣
The van is 22 years old though this year so maybe designed by engineers rather than accountants ?
I've always found the dash display to be very accurate.

As an update to my original problem, I removed the dipstick for a couple of hours to let any oil in the tube to drain and hey presto, an accurate reading on the dipstick 😀
Happy days
