I’ve been thinking about getting a diesel heater installed and my main reason is you can have it on while travelling. I’d really like all your thoughts on diesel vrs lpg heaters, any help appreciated.
Mickey.

I have a mate who fitted one, he absolutely loves it. Reckons it’s frugal on diesel, quick to heat up and keeps the van toasty.

It was only £100.

Had Truma Truma diesel heater for the last five years. Really like it as it's quiet when up to temperature, really warm and never noticed how much fuel it uses it's so minimal. Just for context though, ours is only 6m compact coach built and I've zero experience with gas heating.

We use our gas heater when travelling if its really cold though most times the cab heater is enough.

So it’s ok to have your gas heater on while travelling?, most say gas off when travelling.
Providing you have the crash sensor regulator and either anti-rupture hoses or bottles with anti-rupture valves.

I have a 2020 Chausson motorhome which comes as standard with a Webasto diesel habitation heater. It takes its diesel feed from the vehicle fuel tank and will not operate if the fuel tank is below a quarter full - as a safety measure to ensure that your vehicle cannot run out.

The diesel heater can definitely be used while travelling and indeed Chausson also recommends its use before arriving at your destination to heat up the hab area during cold weather.

It is very efficient and heats the Motorhome extremely quickly when on full power - after which it requires turned down considerably, as it can become like a sauna. The heat is ducted around the vehicle in the same way as a standard fan assisted gas heater. It is a bit noisy on full power, but rarely would we have it at that setting. A great benefit is that it leaves plenty gas for the cooker, fridge, bbq and water heating if not on electric hook up. As it is fed from the vehicle fuel tank there is little risk of availibility.

When we got the vehicle new in 2020, I was a little uneasy about no gas heating - but I would never look back now as the Webasto is great - albeit in warmer climes we use a small electric fan heater to take the chill off when on electric hook up.
