Has anyone paired the diesel heater with Alexa and eWeLink smart switches

I find this a cool idea if wanting to turn the heater on while your out the van or on the way back to a warm van

Apparently the relay switch allows you to wire a 12v feed to the switch then from your diesel heater controller you would wire to the comms port and no port

I know a diesel heater has to go through a shut down cycle to operate properly, would this only be used to start a heater or could you also tell Alexa to stop? If yes and it just cuts power it’s not a good idea, if there is a bit more circuitry/timers etc then may be good.
The remote control and blue tooth ones work well

If you wired to the heater it would cut power but wire it to the heater controller it does the same the heater controller does

I use 3 eWeLink devices all connected through Alexa to successfully control the Alde heating via the Ext Start functionality, control the fuel solenoid on the generator and also to switch the fridge to run on 12v on a certain schedule when there is excess solar so yes it can be done 👍👍

I control our Chinese diesel heater via an Afterburn controller. Not a cheap option, but I can either control our heater directly via the keypad, Bluetooth, or via a webpage on my phone or PC while away from our van. It may seem a little over the top, but by heck you can control and adjust all aspects of the heater and more. The Afterburner also has a fuel gauge, 14 timers that can be set over a 7-day period, plus a GPIO that you can program.

Cool 👌 yes I’ve seen a video a guy asks Alexa to turn the heater on on his phone so the van is warm when gets home
I have Truma inet for this but would like the diesel heater to do the same
I’ve asked how it’s wired but no reply
Like the comment above you need to know how to wire it or surly it would just stop the heater dead which isn’t good for the heater

It does not just switch off the heater, it runs it through its cool-down cycle as it would do normally.

No wiring is needed, it replaces the standard controller by unplugging the existing one and plugging in the Afterburner.

Sorry you lost me
Are you talking about your set up

I meant the relay switch for the eWeLink how they wire it

Correct, an Afterburner controller is an easy option to achieve what you want to do plus a lot more.

I use eWelink to control several Sonoff Zigbee devices via Alexa on our van to inform me of the fridge and freezer temperatures as well as the van internal and external temperatures and also to trigger the hab area window intruder alarms.

Yes, via an Alexa routine with Home Assistant.
Can I ask about this please I have Alexa with the echo connected to a net gear router
How would you connect this to the afterburner then

You run Home Assistant on a cheap and small Raspberry Pi Zero 2 W and communicate between Home Assistant and the Afterburner via MQTT.

If you want to keep what you want to do relatively simple then this video shows you an easy way of controlling your heater via Alexa using heater remotes.

Thanks I seen this video tho I have bought a afterburner

I have the Amazon show so believe this home assistant communicates with the afterburner I’ve not heard of home assistant

I need to look into working home assistance 👍 in my motorhome then I have the cerbo gx and echo show
how would I get home assistance is this a app or some other device I would need to buy
So you connect home assistant to the cerbo or raspberry that then communicates with the afyer burner threw the MQTT settings

I have one of these, great bit of kit. Any advice on setting up the internet access via MQTT. Is there a ‘simple’ way of doing this without requiring server programming skills?

If you are a member on the Ray Jones Afterburner Facebook group, then go to "Guides" and scroll down to James Brookshaw's video on setting up Afterburner remote control via MQTT.
If you are on an Android phone then Ralf Janssen has built an Android app to walk you through setting up MQTT. You can find it in "Files"
I use a free public MQTT broker called hivemq

If your heater has a IR remote control you can use one of these

Smart IR Remote Controller, Smart Home Automation, Panamalar Wireless WiFi Universal IR Control Hub with Alexa and Google Home Compatible For Apple Android Smartphones (IR001)

https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07K8M7HR6/?tag=mhf04-21

You also have to have a wi fi router in your van. I have used one very successfully, it can also start the maxi fan amd any other IR devices you have.
Have you actually used one of the Panamalar devices on a Chinese diesel heater, as the Panamalar info says that it mimics 38KHz IR controlled devices whereas the Chinese diesel heater remotes use 433MHz radio signals, not IR.

Yea I have, works well, I had to teach it the commands by pressing a button on the remote but I have remotely started it and stopped it. Simple solution.
