I took my 2006 Saab diesel for its MOT a couple of weeks ago.
The MOT station is less than a mile away and I booked for 9am.
It failed its emission test - they ran the engine at speed until it passed.
"Next time book the MOT for the afternoon after you've taken it for a blast up the bypass"
I'd heard that advice before from a different source about diesels - just forgot.
Just a reminder for anyone on here with a diesel in for MOT (y)

And before anyone says the obvious - yes it shows how diesels are dirty...

Timely reminder, my mot garage never used to test for emissions, not sure why, he must have fudged it 🤷‍♂️
New tester last year and he tested. It's only three miles to garage and it only just scraped through.
Due again next week and I'll give it an Italian tune up on the long way round to get there.

My car has its service and MOT together and they have it all day so no chance to run it first. It will pass because it's still under warranty and it would be their problem 😁😁

Exactly the same with the catalytic converter on a petrol car. Until it's warmed properly the emissions readings are off the charts.

This is why emissions testers now measure the engine temperature.
