Now in the planning stage for our Grecian Odyssey towards the end of April and I’m hoping for recommendations for stopovers en-route through La Belle France.

We’re docking in Dieppe at 16.00 and the non-toll route I’m looking at is roughly via Rouen, Chartres, Orleans, Lyon, Grenoble to Briançon. Reason for heading in this direction is that we want to traverse the Western Alps as a precursor to future off-road plans, but Northern Italy will be a blat along the autostrada to the Adriatic as we’ve visited the region on a number of previous occasions.

So the ask is for decent aires etc. along that track for a first night and the following 4 or so.

First stop for me from Dieppe would be 88 Rue d'Arques, 76510 Saint-Nicolas-d'Aliermont, France nice quiet aire ,Sully sur Loire just south of Orleans ,Bonneval, Chateaudun just south of Chartres, but sure you are going to get loads of recommendations.

For Aire for the first night have a look at my last trip top link in my signature, 1st one 200km from Dieppe, at Courville-sur-Eure, near Chartres.
If you don't want to go far on the first day we like the one at Montville only 55km from Dieppe.

Thanks both. Don’t mind getting a wriggle on after 4 hours on the boat, so Courville-sur-Eure looks ideal for the first night. Where next folks?

Would you want to be doing anything on days 2 and 3.
Sightseeing, swimming, cycling ?

Not really on this trip other than the chance to catch a decent evening meal on the way. It’s a run (ramble?) for the sun to get down to Bari for the ferry but we do want to have a look at the Piedmont alps for a possible return later this or next year with the quad bike in tow.

As you have a not too tall motorhome, I would try going into the Vercors for the day. Do a search for Combe Laval and head for Vassieux en Vercors but enter into the area from Pont En Royans. Check the height of the clearance on the roads, but fairly certain youre good to go. There are a number of those roads up there and steeped in history.
Tournon Sur Rhone is also in the way and always worth a gander round there.

Thanks. The Vercors, along with the Haute Savoie and the sites associated with the maquis resistance will be part of the reason we’re looking at a specific trip later to the region with the Can-Am in tow. Also looking to explore the abandoned military installations along the border such as Fort Pramand:

Haute Savoie check out sixt fer a cheval. A top 10 visit.
Reckon your vehicle will be well suited as it will for the vercors.
