My little hymer camp 52 based on a fiat ducato 1991 has its bonnet lock broken. I'm due to MOT on the 7th of April but with all the work (Baby's Clever + English Nanny+ Stadium) + Alzheimer dad I have very very little time to find the same lock. Fiat said they don't do it anymore.
I have checked a few second hand parts sellers (can't recall the name of it.... it's a yard full of broken cars/lorrries..etc...) and they are looking , well two are.
If by any chance you know a place where they could have one, and this is where I really need you: I can't take the risk to be misunderstood on the phone, AND pay a fortune for a few calls, so can you please phone for me? Just in case you would need the engine number
290MAJMOD

I have to go now ... more things to do, so will have a look now and then when I can.

Thanks !

Frankie

I hope you get it sorted
As a last resort
get the garage to open it
and you could fit external bonnet locks

Main problem is that I can't do all of it before MOT and re-MOT ! I might have my Hymer out of the road. Thanks anyway

Edit : BTW it does open , I can't shut it /lock it only the security lock works which means anyone can open it and take parts!

Is it the lower part that is spring loaded that is broken or the upper part that bolts to the bonnet & locks in to the lower part ? Or both ?
I can probably find one here in a scrap yard but highly unlikely to get it to you before the 7th April.

Actually any chance of a photo as it is probably the same one as on mine.

Frankie this looks correct on E Bay UK but postage is £18 and probably a bit slow to France .

Is the locking mechanism broken or just seized?

Throw some WD40 type oil at it and especially at the cable inner wire.

It might well free up and operate ok.

Is there nothing on ebay.Fr or equivalents?
The Talbot was a different badged version of exactly the same vehicle as the Citroen C25 and the Peugeot J5.
What about local French scrapyards? I assume most have a parts finding service online or over the phone?

Failing that, the OP could always pay for express 24 hour/48 hour courier of that UK located ebay.uk bonnet catch if it's really urgent.

I've locked at Oscaro.es which is the same as the French one & there isn't any on there or on Autodoc

Thanks everyone for your replies . I've been busy outside and could not come and check here. Also in the mean time I had from Hymer group on FB the same advert you sent me @spitfire . One found the site selling it and I have just ordered it. Shipping was nearly same price than the part but here in 4 days , so if it's really the right part Max should stay on the road..... to be followed

I've called quite a few scrapyards (thanks for the word ... I knew yard was in .!!!) but always got the same answer NO . The mechanic also called a few and same answer. If the one I just ordered is OK i'll have another one just in case!

Well done and thanks to all the Funsters for helping out my Princess.

Also thanks to the Classic Hymer Group on FB for doing the same...

Long live the internet and (most of) those who sail in her...

Yes the one in the ebay ad should be correct .It is the same as mine.
Just a small complaint. After you posted yesterday mine packed up this afternoon .................Fortunately it was the cable.(y) I did have to enlist help to get the bonnet open though.

Oh Dear! That's no luck! We were talking about that problem with JJ a couple of hours ago. He also had his, broken, and therefore bonnet shut! The mechanic told me: you're very lucky it's only the catch (well up to the moment Fiat said they were not making this part anymore!) it would have been more difficult if the bonnet had stayed shut!

At least you now know where to look for parts!
Here is the name of the site E-bay gets them from

Coastal Motorhomes Limited
Shipping for France was something like 11£,?? (9£17 +VAT)
Good luck with the opening operation!

Hi all!

Just a quick update .
Parcel was sent alrigh by Coastal Motorhomes and meant to be shipped by Parcel force company. They did the job to .... well no idea, the French border I guess. Then they gave my precious parcel (without telling me anything, or giving me a french tracking number) to a french delivery company. Yesterday the parcel left the depot to be delivered here at my place. Then...... never found me, so they said. Just when I thought all would go smoothly.
Spend most evening and morning trying to find a way to reach parcel force ....and find my parcel.... no way! In despair, I phoned and e-mailed Coastal motorhomes to see if they could help.
Well...... ever soooooo pleased they could help and did!
Thanks to Nick who gave me all the vital info!

Prompt answer, and a good job all in all. Will highly recommend them!
Will collect my parcel myself in Toulouse , so I make sure nothing else will happen. Garage is waiting for me this afternoon to fix the problem in time for MOT! Now crossing my fingers the part is the right one:unsure:

2 more years with Max !!!!!

The man also gave me the name of someone he knows very well to fix Max's chassis , so it doesn't go off the road too quickly because of the rust! Very happy froggy indeed!
