Having just ordered new back doors for our house, we signed a payment agreement that included deposit protection insurance - if the firm goes bust before our doors are fitted, we will get our deposit back.
But there seems to be no such protection for much higher payments for motorhomes. We’ve also just paid a deposit (much larger than for the doors) for a campervan but the dealer said they didn’t know of any payment protection scheme. We paid by credit card but will not be covered by Section 75 as the van is more than £30k.
With 2 campervan/motorhome companies going bust in the last 6 months (and horror stories of customers losing huge amounts of money in pre-payments) there seems to be a big gap in consumer protection for anything over £30k.
Unless anyone knows of a deposit protection product? Has anyone been offered this by a dealership?

Scotland!
Deposit is about 5% of total and covers the extras we have ordered to be fitted. Seemed reasonable. But still nervous about our lack of financial protection.

We have bought three very expensive motorhomes in the last 20-odd years and none of dealers wanted a deposit.

If we ever decide to buy another, the dealer wll be getting nothing more than a token deposit, say £500 max.

I am quite happy to walk away from anyone who wants more.

I think we paid £100 deposit to the dealer in September

With agreement to pay the rest on delivery in December.
And we then got free storage until March as part of the deal.

Which meant, for over 3 months he had the physical vehicle, be we had all the paperwork.

As above we have never paid more than £100 deposit on any motorhome, paid the balance on handover, extras fitted elsewhere and far cheaper than a dealership
