I am thinking , just thinking, of trying to make a day van of some sort. I love the motorhome, but it's a bit of a hastle taking it out for the day then finding somewhere to park if going to national trust properties etc. I was thinking if either a fiat doblo size van or going a bit bigger with a Peugeot expert / Citroen dispatch size. Nothing too fancy just basic cooking, room for sleeping 2 not sure if I would bother with EHU even. Anyone converted this type of van, any ideas for layouts. Just thinking about it at the moment.

@golly I have also been thinking along the same line but have not reached a conclusion about the best vehicle for me. Have you considered one of the Japanese 4x4 grey import campers?

Yes I initially was looking at Mazda bongos and mitsubishi delica but a most I found where high milage, 3 litre engine and petrol. Whereas petrol is not a bad idea, a three litre engine would be a bit thirsty, a project would keep me busy over the winter as well. I have seen some right dogs advertised, some people think if you nail a kitchen cupboard in a van , throw in a mattress and call it a camper they can charge silly money o_Oo_O

The first question I ask is whether the vehicle is registered as a motor caravan on the V5C.

Having the V5 changed isn't hard to do, if the van you've converted for-fills the criteria set by the DVLA. Simply take photos and write a covering letter, they do the rest.

Watching with interest .. I have thought the same for instead of my car ... but it's got to be economical and reasonable to buy. I would love to go to certain places but my mh is too large. I know certain other people will watch this thread with interest too.

If I wanted it just for me, I would have a go doing something like this, it fits a Citroen Berlingo and is removable.

However I think Mrs G wouldn't be too pleased to be left at home, I think I would get a

I like that but where is the driver's seat please?

This is a link to the firm that do the conversion, but if I did it I would have a go myself.

@Snowbird may have a converted panel van for sale.
