Data sim or ordinary ?

Hello ...anyone use an ordinary phone sim in an ipad for data only ?

Standard phone SIMs of course work, to a point, but they are increasingly managed by the operators, so expect traffic shaping and throttling, some overt, some not so obvious.

We just hotspot from our phones to use the iPads - no need for a sim just for the tablet.

I use phone sims in my router, Smarty and RWG (EE) with no problem.
I find Smarty do better deals on phone sims than their data only ones, I recently asked them if there was any difference and was told no.
