When using automatic tuning I get quite a few data channels. What are they for and how can they be accessed? Thanks

what do you mean by "data" channels, do you mean DTV ?
do you have a screenshot maybe

No screenshots but get 3 listings on DTV
Tv. X number
Radio. X number
Data. X number

Numbers depends on location when tuning. In last two weeks tv, for example has varied between over a hundred and zero. The more tv channels I get, the more the radio and data get. Think data has risen to 17 channels. Believe this set up is the norm for Avtex

I've seen these too on Cello TV. No idea what they are or what you can do with them.

Interesting post. I've also wondered what the Data channels were for. I'll be keeping an eye out, I'm sure someone will know.

I'm sure a simple internet search would reveal all.

I haven't looked as I really don't care.

Simple google search states that a data channel is one that requires an internet connection. Dont ask me what this means, ask google 😜

From what I understand, Data channels are for streaming services ( like the BBC Red Button that gives some text information , and archived video of sport , BBC Sounds like commentary from football/cricket etc) some of these services only work on specific models of TV and are usually low content text /streamed video/sound only information for example . Only the BBC Red button works on my tv though , the rest don’t😉

Don't need to AS I DON'T CARE :D

Why bother answering then. Somebody asked a question and a few offered explanations.
If you look at the replies you will see that no one offered explanations, just confirmed they also didn't know upto my first reply. I was actually the first person who suggested the most sensible (and most obvious) one IMO.
I still don't care and have no interest in knowing but it doesn't mean I can't suggest how to find out to help others

Actually I looked it up on the internet. The words were English, but put together…….. duh. Or in the words of a song ‘ the questions run too deep for such a simple man ‘. There’s enough rubbish on channels I can get without bothering about the others

However thanks for all those who responded. Seems like it’s another bit of technology most of us don’t need ( or understand). Perhaps tv’s would be cheaper without it

Why not call Avtex and ask them?

Anyone else get a message when auto tuning about a slave channel? It simply gives a yes or no option?I have no idea what this means and it only means on the TV not people!!

All freewview TV's do that. It would be interesting to know what that data is.
White space, there is spare bandwidth that can be used as per a previous post I made BT ran a trial using this spare band width to provide broadband on the Isle of Bute.

As Bruce Springsteen sang ‘57 channels and nothings on’
