Very daft newbie question. Which pump do you use at the petrol station the HGV one or the normal one?

In my opinion no such thing as a daft question.

Just a daft answer.

I would not use a hgv pump has often have a higher flow rate than a car/van one.

And may kick fuel out - ps: if this is a daft answer i apologise.:D

Not a daft question at all, but here's a daft answer. I would never use the HGV pump as my petrol engine wouldn't be impressed.

some, but not all stations to use the hgv pump you need to take your fleet fuel card and credit card into the kiosk before they enable the pump. they do that at one of local stations and shout over the tannoy "HGV ONLY, USE ANOTHER PUMP"

At some, but not all, HGV pumps your feet will sink into the congealed Diesel.:).

You must go onto some terrible places. I use lots of stations nationwide and not seen hgv forecourts like that for many, many years.
The main thing is that a lot of fuel places have covered petrol/diesel pumps whereas a lot of hgv pumps don't. It's as though hgv drivers don't get wet when it rains.

Not a daft question. I've learnt a lot this week on my first trip to France. Petrol stations were very daunting! Had to fill up with LPG today, which is GPL here. Luckily got a very nice young Frenchman forecourt attendent to assist!

Normal pump as long as the canopy is high enough and the drive in and out isn't too tight. Once had to reverse out of a fuel station at an ASDA - and yes, it was very busy!!!!! The cashier did say it happened at least once a day and with 4x4 vehicles, vans and motorhomes.

I like daft questions, I ask them all the time and learn loads when others think of the questions to ask that I've not even thought of!

Some pumps (even the dedicated HGV) have a high output button to allow smaller vans to use those pumps and only have a regular flow rate. More and more pumps have this now.

Tbf, never seen a pump with a high flow rate button but obviously they must exist.

It's usually an orange button with a picture of a HGV on it, not always that well placed and you could easily miss it.
