Well can you get DAB radio 2 & radio 4 in Europe, specifically France, instead of all their totally POO radio stations?! I can get by in French but French radio is truly awful!! ALMOST ( but not quite) as bad as Italian T.V. which is unbelievably crap!! If I can what frequency do I need to tune to?

DAB digital radio is a terrestrial technology using land-based transmitters. You can only listen to stations when you are within their transmission range. You might be able to get 2 and 4 on the BBC Sounds app.

You would need to stream those channels from BBC Sounds, DAB transmissions won't reach across the channel

We couldn’t get it in a lot of the places in Scotland, so I doubt you’ll get it in France unless you do so by the internet.

I stream via phone and bluetooth to radio - not a huge data use

If you have an iPad maybe you can use the Radio UK app ? There are many radio stations on there, including 2&4

We always take an elderly portable radio ..long wave is receivable when stationary below bordeaux.
We used to listen to the end of the R4 pm programme down on the algarve but the skip seemed to change suddenly just before the six o clock news.
It'll be a sad day when those seemingly irreplaceable valves at Droitwich finally expire.
How do the French seem to be able to stay on long wave with such strong signals?

We stream Radio 4 and BBC 6 Music in Europe from our phones using Android Auto through a Sony Double DIN head unit.

You need a data SIM in your phone (although not necessarily a UK one like you need for BBC iPlayer - a French or Spanish one will work fine without need of a VPN for BBC Sounds), and the data required for audio streaming is relatively small.

Android Auto (or Apple Carplay if you are an iPhone user) is a game changer for music and sat navigation when on the move.

We stream from our phones, no special data sim needed. Uses very little data. Only thing that doesn’t play is live sport. Although Test Match Special does have a workaround on the web page.

If within range, we listen to Classic Gold radio coming in via the satellite dish. If not, we stream it in from the App on the Firestick, or via the App on the tablet, all of which we can then connect to a Bluetooth speaker.
BBC Radios 2 & 4 are available also.

Cheers,

Jock. :)

Bluetooth to phone listened to it all round Europe if you listen to Pop quiz with Ken Bruce on greatest hits radio when finished jump to BBC sounds and can rewind to 10:30 and listen to Vernon Kay and Ten from the Top so passes 40 mins

Slowly coming into the 20th century- have been very impressed with streaming here in UK. Boom lite is great!!
What convinced me is that apparently it takes about 60Mb of data per hour to stream audio. That would give me 50 hours a month off my 3Ghz allowance, so I will see how it works out
I will still take the LW radio with me though!
