I agree, but sadly the doctor cocked up the form which led to a delay and then the medical team decided that diabetes insipidus is the same as diabetes melitus and after numerous phone calls and finally formal complaints, I received my licence yesterday, complete with C1.

DVLA are absolutely hopeless

When you already have more than enough work on your plate overpricing is seen as less confrontational than refusing outright.
Exactly , even in my day we hated doing them. They were a pain in the bum and always took way longer than they should. Your own patients always expected a consultation for a long list of ailments “whilst I’m here doc”. They’d never remember a urine sample, we used to have to test for diabetes, is that still a thing? Or they’d fail the eye test as they’d forgotten their glasses and have to come back but obviously wouldn’t want to pay anymore.

Thank god for these private providers I say.

Hubby Bill asked our GP's surgery if they did them as his C1 was due he did prefer going to gp but he was told they used to but they don't anymore. However if he had any major health problems he would need to talk to the surgery's secretary's to check if GP would consider doing it for him at a cost . Never found out the cost as Bill hasn't any major health issues .
His form was filled in by D4drivers (£58) and Asda opticians ( no charge) they were very efficient and form went off on the 8th August . Received licence back today so 8 days in total. 👍🤗
