Help please guys! Over the last couple of days in France we’ve noticed on around half a dozen occasions that our cruise control cancels itself just as we’re overtaking a lorry. It seems to happen just as our rear end is passing their front end and you feel the little bit of drag pushing you across to their side.

It’s happened so many times that I’m assuming it’s a technical thing that’s supposed to kick in but at 60 mph it feels pretty scary. Does anyone have any idea what may be causing this to happen? We have a brand new Roller Team Pegaso 740 A Class, which is a Fiat chassis in case that’s relevant!

Probably just the bow wave from the lorry causing your vehicle to move/jolt.

We have had 3 Fiat's with cruise and found occasionally the cruise will drop out on rough roads.

Do the newer Fiats have the "wind assist" system on them?
This could be triggering the cruise control if it is as the system may be applying the brakes.

I think it might be part of the ‘Safety Pack’ that’s an option. Something, along with the other sensor controlled gubbins that I avoid like the plague.

Mine started cutting out when my speed sensor on the offside wheel failed. The dash didn't display the reason it just stopped the cruise control working intermittently. It was only diagnosed when an error was noted in multiecuscan.

I think you will find its the wind assist &/or the lane assist.
As soon as it's activated it switches off the cruise control.

Or, as suggested above when the vehicle cant maintain the required speed due to hills or wind (bow wave)

Personally I don't like cruse control.
I find it potentially dangerous.

The number of times i have used it in the UK I can put on one hand.
I only use it on clear straight main roads, such as those in France, Croatia, and maybe occasionally in Germany.
It's an American toy, not suitable and not designed for 'old world' road systems

Works fine for me in the UK.

& I'm the complete opposite.I use it all the time to the extent i can accelerate, decelerate just using the steering wheel controls

in what way?

I agree there. Amazing how many people cannot maintain a steady speed.

We use cruise control quite a lot and on our last 2017 Fiat comformatic it would some times drop out for no apparent reason and our 2018 Iveco does exactly the same for no reason.

We had the active cruise control, and the steering thingy on our hire care in America, Cupra LTX V6 Auto10 speed box.
Went like the clappers, as the feds will agree,. The steering control is a pain though especially when your straightening out those constantly sweeping single lane switch backs where you can see for miles there's no traffic coming, and the steering keeps fighting you back into following the road lines. Nice car though, and reasonably frugal.

I think wind assist would make sense as it was a particularly windy day so going past HGV’s at moderate speed meant you felt the pull once past them, and it was at the same point each time that it kicked in, or cancelled the cruise control. I’ll have a look through the manual but this sounds like the obvious problem.

Our cruise control drops out over poorer potholes so brilliant around mainland Europe but the minute you land in Dover it's back to manually resetting every few miles.

How many times do you get overtaken then they slow down in front of you - infuriating!
