Covid test required to enter UK

Took 2.5 hours today in New York in a queue to get a LFT to fly back to UK tomorrow for my son.

When people are travelling for holidays I don’t really think any of us can complain about the costs of tests going into and out of the U.K. or other countries and the fact that the rules keep changing. Surely people should factor that in by now, Covid has been with us for nearly 2 years.

I’ve just cancelled my trip to Barcelona with darling daughter from 16-20 th December, it’s my choice. I’d paid for day 2 tests so lose that but I “chose” not to risk getting a positive test in Spain and being stuck there for Christmas, what a logistical nightmare that would be . The family would be devastated.

I’d paid extra to be able to cancel the hotel, EasyJet flights can be pushed back to March, we will not use them as Claire will be in Bangladesh but it’s our choice and was always a gamble. Let’s just just hope she makes it home from there next Sunday, I’ll be a nervous wreck!

Let’s all hope Omicron proves to be not too bad but surely it’s better to over react than under react.

It varies. I'm flying to UK today, cheapest day 2 test (PCR) I found is £20 but they can be much much more. Plus pre flight test here in Portugal €30. Plus another test in the UK before returning to Portugal, cost £35.

Not quite sure why you’re aiming this at me as I’m not complaining about the costs at all ! :giggle:

I would expect prices to be cheaper in Greece than in the UK.

I’m not complaining about our trip I’m just disappointed as we haven’t had a mother /daughter trip in nearly 3 years. We’re going to go to Cardiff instead so still going abroad! We need to go shopping. It was going to be London but that’s a bit too much like work for her!

Twogirls found some bargains.

My boss was supposed to be taking his family to tenerife for xmas, all booked and paid long ago, cant take the kids because they are required to be double jabbed but they are not allowed to be double jabbed yet so he is stuffed.
He even took the kids to a walk in jab place so he could get proof of cant get 2nd kids jab because holiday firm are being iffy.
They tried to swap holiday to next xmas but that was gonna be another £1100
I cant see overseas holidays being easy for the usual benidormers for a while yet 😕

As any fan of Max Boyce will tell you, it's Kerdiff, and is famous being being the HQ of the Welsh Space Agency, whence its world first lunar landing of Morgan the Moon began, years before the Americans; of course, the Americans were first to land a man on the moon AND get him back ... But Morgan was first to land in a dusty old crater; Dai said he'd get there, lunar or later ... And it is made of cheese; Caerphilly! :giggle:

The PCR test according to its inventor Kary Mullins is at best 40% accurate, he said it should not be used for diagnosis purpose, merely a Lab tool.
Not my words the inventor and Nobel laureate.

UK Gov website contains the usual 'that's why you should have travel insurance' warning. Your policy should cover you against delayed return to UK if one or both of you catches COVID, including any repatriation costs. What doesn't appear to referred to explicitly is the consequences of any overstay because of COVID infections, even if it is a mild dose contracted, say 7 days before you reach your 90 days stay limit

This is the scenario I am now worried about. The scenario is where either my wife or myself test positive while away on our planned upcoming ski trip over Jan/Feb. At the end of our planned return date from France, we only have 6 days buffer on our 90/180 as we spent half of the 90 in Spain earlier in the year. If one of us tested positive nearer the end of our France ski trip, then there is a strong possibility we will not be able to re enter the UK as we won't be able to show a negative LFT, resulting in a 90/180 overstay. The reasons of over stay would be due to Covid so I assume that the French authorities would take this into consideration and grant an extension. I am trying to find out how I would go about applying for an extension from France in the event this scenario played out.

Another issue is that your positive test will show on French COVID app which means no entry to campsites, restaurants etc
I’ve been trying to get an answer on this and your question as well and also what about if one of you continues to get a negative test and the other doesn’t drive the vehicle but is still forced to stay.
Have recieved no guidance at all other than those very helpful people that suggest it’s my fault and shouldn’t have gone

Why are truck drivers coming into the country exempt from tests?

All will be on ferries - plenty of time to take a LFT test..............

Why is there an exemption list anyway?..... does the virus choose who to infect by their job description?

Just something else about the pandemic that makes no sense..........
