Still getting there.
In May 2018, I drove into Portugal via a toll road. Long story short - I ended up with an 88 Euro fine for a cock-up i made on the toll road (due to ignorance of the rules). I tried to pay this penalty notification at 2 post offices (as instructed) but they didn't want to know. I guess they didn't have the computer info to deal with it. Ultimately I left Portugal without paying the fine and haven't heard anything since.
I still have the same van & number plate as back then and I would like to return to Portugal soon.
They obviously have my reg. number somewhere on a computer so do you think I could be collared by the police one day whilst driving through?

Buy yourself a cheap personal reg. Probably cheaper than the original fine
Sorted

I was including the cost of potential court fees etc.
Whats the price of "peace of mind"

As you haven’t heard anything since,I think it’s highly unlikely they will come looking for you, wherever you are. Did the original fine paperwork say anything about interest being added if not paid by a certain date?

For your peace of mind it may be worthwhile giving the Portuguese embassy a call - no need to give your own details as yor calling on behalf of a worried friend.

Do this...
Call the Portuguese company that deals with the section of motorway in question..they will speak English..
Give them the vehicle registration number and say....you are thinking of buying a van with the registration number you quoted...but before you buy it, tell them that the person who owns the vehicle may be a regular visitor to France, Spain and Portugal and you are checking if there are any outstanding tolls due before you buy it.
It worked for me when I needed this information....actually I may have been in your situation...but they had nothing on record for a non- Portuguese vehicle.
