Hi, Looking to scale down a bit to give me better access to the lovely little roads and islands on the West Coast of Scotland. I Found the Adria Twin 500 that would suit us , but they're few and far between, I thought that with the knowledge that's on this forum I'm hoping that you can give me a few more option. If somebody has something for sale thats even better.
Kind regards Neil

Thanks downsie, will do some research on that and see what's available

All the conversions, and there are many, done on the LWB Volkswagen T4, T5 and T6 are just a whisker over 5m long. As you will see from my signature I have been using these vehicles for a good number of years and have spent hundreds of nights in them both in the UK and Europe.
Always high roof versions for the extra space and better insulation etc.

Width is more important than length. A VW will be easier on the really tight country lanes than a Ducato. But in Scotland, I'm not sure it'll make that much difference. You'll still need to use the passing points and the visibly to the next one is generally good out on the glens.

Also, look at the price and feature difference between a 5.3m VW and a 5.4m Ducato. The Fiat will have a permanent bed and a bathroom... and probably be cheaper.

As Guigsy says width more limiting than length.
We too love the West Coast of Scotland and have travelled many many miles on the roads you talk about and we have a LWB Movano.. 7mtr.
Absolutely no problems and as said many times on here I simply love twisty turny single track roads to the point I go out my way to find them.

In my opinion, a 5m van is not needed unless you are going to use it as a daily driver or in towns. I tour Scotland quite a lot and both my vans have been 5.99m, a Murvi morello and now a possl 2 win.
I like finding small roads and out of the way spaces and 5.99m has never been a problem. Being semi retired, I needed a fixed double bed, shower, heating and toilet, to “rough it” comfortably 👍😁

There is a lot more options at 5.4 metres if you want full facilities.

UK conversions such as Auto sleeper Symbol, Autotrail v-line, Consort, Vantage, Shire, SL, Murvi.

Lots of Euro vans with front dinette and fixed or folding transverse bed.

East Neuk Campers don't do the 5mtr van anymore but they do still do 5.4 or 6mtr versions. I have the 5.4mtr van and am delighted with it, any questions about this van, fire away and i'll try to help.
You dont say whether you want new or 2nd hand, you would struggle to find a 2nd hand one as owners ten to hang on to them.

God luck with your search.

There are fewer 5m and even 5.4m PVCs because apart from VWs the market seems to prefer longer more spacious PVCs especially the 6.4m vans that offer twin fixed beds.

I have a 5.4m van which seemed at the time to be the minimum length for a fixed bed and washroom conversion. It has since been dropped from the Rapido Van range so from that you might deduce it didn't sell in enough numbers. When it comes up for replacement I will probably go for a longer one.

Stellantis (Fiat, Citroen, Peugeot) have stopped making the SWB (5M) van. The last of the 5M Wildax Pulsars are coming through now and future ones will be on the MWB (5.41M). The extra 41cm doesn't seem to make much difference on the road or for parking but makes a lot of difference inside!

We're loving our 5 metre Fifer it's an oldie but goodie. It has a toilet and plenty bed space for us and we can have back passengers if necessary.

To give you an idea of the 540 layout…….for this van or the 600 (5.99m) you need to be no taller than about 5’10”ish as they are both latitudinal beds. Fine for me and my wife as were 5’8”. The 6.36m van as longitudinal beds.👍

You better be quick as they are no longer built. Highbridge in Devon may have one left.
Hymer had the Sydney on 4.99m with a pop-top roof but it doesn’t have a washroom. There are two on Autotrader.

A 5.4m Ducato actually fits in a standard parking space.
Surprisingly so does my 6.4m x 2.3m A class as far as the wheelbase is concerned! I need a good low verge for the rear overhang and to be fair I would have difficulty getting in or out of the van if cars parked either side.😊😊😊

I mean in a space without taking the piss too much. 😁

For clarity, that's a 5.4m.

You could look at Murvi vans. A friend has a Pimento on the 5.4 mtr Ford and she loves the way it drives.

Did you get a Pulsar Neil H ? I think they will be 5.4 in future but am guessing they will be unveiled at the NEC show?
