Anyone know the cost of a spare Fiat Ducato key, full works, not just the ignition key?

I have heard you can get a copy made by specialist companies.

I got one a few years ago from a mobile auto locksmith. Our transport manager new of him. He spent a great deal of his time replacing keys for ambulances. The crews would bail out and snap the key off with their knee. If you know a paramedic ask them. They might have a contact.

You can buy the bodies, you just transfer all the internals over.
Just done it on the wife's Suzuki.

2021 onward Ducato have a secure gateway on the OBD port connection, meaning that the standard tools that an auto locksmith uses to program a new key will not work (I had someone try to make me one). In theory, if your locksmith knows where the secure gateway is and has the right cables, he can bypass it and do the job. Apparently buried somewhere behind the dash, so needs some disassembly... I didn't fancy trying that while still in warranty, so am going to get the Fiat garage to do it, probably about £200 I think.

cheers,

Robin

Just had a new key in April this year. £300 for the key plus £100 to match the key to the van. All from a Fiat Professional garage.

If you make a copy of the main key, and were to use it in an emergency to open a MH that is alarmed and immobilized, would it start?

I was told that you can copy the immobiliser coding and it would start the vehicle, but copying the remote control coding isn't workable (you can do it, but it won't work properly afterwards because both remote keys are the same as far as the van is concerned). No idea about alarms, since we don't have one.

cheers,

Robin

As has been mentioned the last quote from Fiat Professional for a second Fob Key, coded to match the original was arround £400, last time I heard, its probably gone up since then though.
I am sure I am not alone is saying that every new car I have ever had came with 2 coded fob Keyes, how Fiat get away with only supplying one fob, & one blank key only always make me angry as the base units are not cheap.
I looked into having a spare fob made that locked the doors, started the engine ect, but like so many before on here, I just gave up, as I don't want to spend that sort of dosh on a second "Spare" key.
I hope someone finds an easier route, but I have yet to hear about one that does not involve having the van sat there, and costing more or less the same as Fiat.
Sadly gone are the days of matching a key number with that on the Barrel of the steering lock.
Good luck, lets hope it can be done without costing hundreds.
