Cooling fan not working

Hi all
Fiat ducato 3ltr 2012 engine management light on had Fiat computer plugged in comes up with 1 cooling fan not working does anyone know which fuse or relay feed the fan or as anyone had this problem and got ideas how to solve it as the engine light will not go off. Many thanks inadvance
 
On a 10 reg there is two relays in the under bonnet fuse box.

Hi thanks again for information I have shorted relays out and both fans work so proved feed and fans struggling to find other components any more good ideas what it may be many thanks

They are controlled by the ecu. Does your code reader have the ability to operate the fans?

Is ono fan running when you operate the A/C?
Have you tried shorting or testing the temperature sender?
I’m surprised the fan not operating is an engine warning light scenario.

I took it to garage and they put code reader on and could only get 1 fan working 1 fan is working on the ac. Do you know where temp sender is situated. The code reader is showing o ly 1 fault which is cooling fan fault and will not clear many thanks for your reply

Looking into this a bit, and I can’t see that a failed fan would bring on your engine warning light. Especially as yours is working.

What reader did they use?

It would be nice to get it re read with a different machine

Hi sorry for the delay been back to garage they use a texa reader as they only do commercial plugged in again sane fault No2 fan not working think I need to try elsewhere

Hi thanks again for all your help just a update tried 2 different readers and coming up with po481 fault which is fan No2 control so need to investigate where the fault is now either corroded connection faulty wiring a relay or sensor

The temp sender is normally screwed into the rad somewhere 🤔

Temperature senders are usually in the cylinder head, so that they can tell the engine temp rather than the radiator temperature. The radiator temperature will vary if the thermostat is open or not. I think, that there is only 1 temperature sender on the Ducato, and if that is the case then this will also provide the information to your dashboard temperature gauge. I assume your dash temperature gauge is operating ok?

In order the fan to operate, to cool the rad, something needs to tel the fan: GO. That is usually a temp solenoid on the rad. i usually take that solenoid, wire some stubby cables and sink it in a hot cup of water. If it closes its good. same test for thermostat.

I have in the past put a jump wire across the ones on the temp sender to bring the fan on either as a test or keep it on constantly if needed, the last time I think it was because of a partially blocked rad on a Peugeot 406 to get us home form holiday towing a caravan so I could replace the rad.

I don’t think the X250 has a temp sender on the radiator and that the fans are controlled via the ecu, not just wired via a simple thermo switch. If it was just a thermo switch on fan (old fashioned style) then this would not illuminate the engine warning light.

Either way, ecu needs to know the rad temperature to turn on the fan, the engine temperature is irrelevant for the cooling fan. Cooling fan only works after thermostat opens, and dumps the hot coolant in the rad. I would investigate some sort of temp sensor or switch by the rad or main rad hose coming from the engine to the rad.

There is only one temp reader as far as I know K036. That is engine mounted, and provides all temp info to the ecu. The ecu, controls the fans, the rad temperatures are controlled via thermostat which is mechanical

From the last shortcut i sent, item 4 is a "sending unit" attached to thermostat housing.
is this a temperature sensor for the ECU
