Evening all

My 1993 fiat ducato is off for a service next week and the guy at the garage asked me if I wanted to supply my own coolant.

They can supply and whilst I don’t think they would have my eyes out, I’m also aware that coolant added at service can proof to be costly.

The thing is I’m not really sure what coolant I should be getting and how much for a complete re-fresh.

I’ve looked online and at a couple of auto stores but not really sure what to get - to be fair when googled very little comes up but paraflu? Which I can’t seem to get anyway.

Any advice on type and volume much appreciated.

Thanks
Jo

I would check your handbook or dealer for type and quantity for the recommended protection..
That many types now and some cant be mixed...
Not so bad if you are doing a complete change as long as its thoroughly flushed and the replacement fluid is compatible with your engine...
Might be as well to let the garage supply if they are doing the job anyway...
Andy..

Hi

Thanks Rosalan, Mick 63, TACR2Man and Justsmithy.

I will look at the links.

Its a complete flush so all the same is going back in.

I didn't ask the cost - he kinda caught me on the hop and I did just say for him to do it because I knew it wasn't as straight forward as I would like it to be having already been online and mooched around some car spare shops looking confused but then I thought I would just ask you guys.

If Im still not sure after looking at the links I will let him do it because I have a good feeling about this garage and I'd like to think he's going to be a lot more honest than the last one I went to.

If all else fails (e.g. internet, neighbour, mate in the pub, wife's dentist, Funsters, so forth), when wanting to know what type antifreeze to use you can always (as a last resort) revert to the vehicle's user manual. ;)
After draining and refilling the coolant you often get air locks in the cooling system and heater pipes which can be a b*gger to clear. Not worth the hassle to save a few quid. Let the garage do it.

I found a complete drain of coolant impossible to do on a 2.8JTD !
Ended up siphoning out the header tank and filling with neat antifreeze.
Did the research online / Euro car parts and ended up with the blue stuff.

Hi Spriddler - I wasn't go to do it ;) - he just asked me if I wanted to supply it. I'm aware of my abilities and that's way above my abilities !!:D
I will leave it with them …...I just wanted to check to see if easy to source.
Thanks to all.
