Van conversion
Hi,
We are in the middle of a campervan conversion and starting to look at heating/cooking options. Originally we wanted a microwave but even the compact ones are too deep and bulky. Now looking at mini ovens/grills/reheating boxes etc.
Would like to hear your recommendations and the pros and cons of whats out there.
I doubt we'll be doing major cooking but would like to be able to heat up porridge and store bought food without a lot of hassle and without stinking up the camper (avoiding frying pans!). Many thanks in advance ;)

Can't really comment although l will, l have the normal Thetford Duplex oven and grill.
Does all l need, even toast but slower than the oven at home, but what's the rush.
Doubles up as a cupboard should l really need more space.

Can you not squeeze in a single hob? (i.e. in a combined sink/hob unit). More versatile and less room taken than an oven of any sort.

Have a look at halogen ovens (on EHU only, obviously) makes great toast and roasts as well

To be honest, we'd be looking for a quick and easy way to heat dinners etc inside the camper. We do have a gas and sink combo but struggling to find space for an oven or microwave. Thinking in terms of making porridge in the morning or heating up shop bought food.
I do a lot of home cooking day to day so would like to avoid the chefs apron as much as possible when away ;) Was thinking maybe a dutch oven or cassarole would work to heat up shop bought dinners on the gas but never tried it. Is this a handy piece of kit for the job?

I'd love to get an oven but stuck for space. Was thinking of some sort of dutch oven or casserole dish to heat shop bought dinners on the gas but dont know if there exists such a thing? This home chef wants to avoid the chopping board as much as possible when away!!

This looks the business but alas...no space :( Any ideas for heating shop bought dinners on the hob...in some special type of pot etc? Am avoiding the apron at all costs :)

When we had the caravan we bought a 3 way oven which was grill/oven and microwave all in one 🤔 think it was made by goodmans iirc

We do not have a microwave in our new m/h but would also like one for morning porridge etc. But not sure if a stand alone microwave would be okay to use on m/h electrics. Does anyone know what the maximum wattage is on campsite electrics please. 🤔

If you are looking at ready meals, the sort normally heated in a microwave or oven, then if you are careful what you buy you can just use a saucepan. Scrape it out of its tray into a pan then gently heat. If there is precooked rice packed separately then just put this in water and bring to the boil. You can do the same with any vegetables. :)

It varies but 99% of the time a microwave will be fine. Anything less than 6 amp hook up and you'd be risking a tripped circuit breaker.

I do porridge in a pan on the gas.

Also I have found a small slow cooker plus an invertor one of the best items ever. You can do roasts and baked potatoes and even bread in a slow cooker but you might need a food thermometer.

The slow cooker can be filled with "stuff" and put in a locker when not in use.

Re-heating can be done in a skillet with close fitting lid if you are careful - or you could use a bain-marie on the hob but it will take a while.
