Our battery on Peugeot Boxer Autosleeper is pretty dead and whilst we’re waiting for assistance there’s a continuous tone sounding from the back of the van. It goes off when the ignition is on but obviously can’t leave it like that overnight...any ideas? Neighbours will be complaining soon! Seems to be coming from a vent above the fridge?

Fridge is switched off... All electrics have been off. We’re hooked up at the moment to see if that helps ( no luck yet)

Tracker/Alarm?

If you have a side step could it be stuck not fully in / out and an alarm is being sounded ? ,although it would normally sound with the ignition on , worth checking.
Have you tried turning the Sargent PSU off to see if that will stop the noise for now.

I’ll check those, thanks... The noise continued when I switched PSU off (is that the box with fuses etc?!)

Totally different motorhome but my control panel beeps loudly if the battery voltage is too low. Normally stops after a few seconds if the panel is switched off.

The PSU / fuse box should have a (black) total shutdown button . have you tried using that . (If it is a Sargent unit)

Can you connect your hab battery with a set of jump leads. Might put a bit of juice in to the engine battery enough to stop the noise if nothing else.

Thank you Cyberyacht. All sorted now- battery resuscitated, had a nice long run and noise stopped.

A knackered relay will make a continuous squeal. Have seen several towbar bypass relays do just this and short out the battery

forgot to say, pull the relay for the towbar wiring if fitted and see if the noise stops

Just thought, I had a ducato that was making a constant squeal and that turned out to be water in the under bonnet relay box on the nearside wing. It shorted out the windscreen washer pump. Solution was to unplug the relay board and bring it in the house to clean and dry it. drilled a hole in the base of the box to drain any future water. Then put a rubber mat over the top of the box to stop water dripping on it if the scuttle overflowed. A good spray with ACF and the problem never happened again

We had a relay behind the fridge that had light corroded terminals, easy access from the vents.
stripped it out and cleaned it up, that was it sorted.
Mind when I was in there I found the last or one of the last owners had used the fridge 240 socket to power another socket along the bed box front, not by joining into the ring but by using a multi plug like this. The cable were to heavy for it so he or she had used gaffer tape to hold it in!!
