Hi
We are finally away on our first proper long trip yayy!! However I need to work on the road a bit so we had a motorhome WiFi installed. The first sim we used lebara didn't work so we switched to Smarty which worked fine on a couple of days visit to the New Forest. However we have arrived in Wales and although it says full signal and my laptop connected initially, it quicklyropped off and now say connection issues. The TV is the same and our phones have intermittent connected to it, however they work fine on data roaming.

Is this just a common problem I should expect or could there be an issue with a simple fix to try? I can't try our phone sims in router as they are lebara which don't work. Smarty's network coverage says it should be fine here...we are in the Gower peninsula Wales and its pouring with rain, maybe that's the issue?!

Thanks for you any help you can give me

I have a set up at my static, I can get great reception first thing in the morning then it dies of, they keep saying that they are working on a local mast, so other masts get busy as the day goes on so I can get a very weak signal, you can check signal strength with smarty. I use Speedcheck to test my signal.

I know it‘s cliche. But. Have you turned the unit off, and then back on after a couple of minutes.

Yes I also did a reset. Our phones connect to it fine, it's just the TV & laptop...which is what I really want it to work for lol!
Last night by logging out of TV and back in worked but not this morning...technology is great when it works, frustrating when it doesn't!!

Thats a shout..I will go on to Smarty and see if I can find the speed test...I'm guessing I have to take sim out of router and put in my phone?

We also have Smarty sim in our huawei mifi. I have noticed similar dropping of signal speed. I suspect it’s 3 throttling the speed for the cut price brands that use their network. When we had ee sim it never happened. Also spent 3 months in Spain using locally bought Orange sim it never happened. Unfortunately you get what you pay for.
Also noticed Vodafone doing it with our Talkmobile phones

I have done a speed test and just under 3gb...but I can't understand why I can't connect my laptop to this for data browser as I used to get that at home when we lived rural, hopeless for streaming but ok for working!
What sim do you use in UK now? I've tried lebara but that didn't work in modem...trip to shops by the looks of it!!

Thank you, I've done one and its 3gb, which explains streaming issues but not not being able to log on to laptop...guess will have to wait until helplines reopen

Currently still with smarty as it meets most of our needs most of the time, but keeping an open mind.

I downloaded the speed test separately and doesn’t matter if the sim is in the mifi router, I can get 10 -15 mbps at times, early morning or during the night (tried that a couple of times) during the day it has been know to get less than 1. I have an EE sim as well as smarty and same result on either, when I’m home I have Sky WiFi and the tests between 50 - 65 mbps.
Not expecting that at the static but 10 -15 would be great 👍

I'm assuming this is resolved now? I'm curious to know the outcome since I've been seriously considering a Motorhome WiFi installation. However this thread is putting me off the not inconsiderable investment.

Our Smarty's fine for streaming TV...bit patchy if using WhatsApp video call at same time for instance
We have a Huawei mifi £62 on Amazon but just bought our parents a non branded version for £32
Smarty isn't on contract, so all you'd lose is what you've uses and if mifi no good, just return back to amazon

I want/need a rock solid mobile Wi-Fi so invested in a commercial grade Teltonika router coupled with a Poynting MIMO antenna with compatible connections. Bought as individual components at my second favourite price, it’s been an easy installation and setup bearing in mind that I’m no techie - Teltonika have excellent wikis, forums and online support. The 200gb RWG global data SIM @ £28pm has worked flawlessly while roaming in the U.K., France, Italy, Greece and Crete, so I’m able to remotely link to our work computer and emails and satisfy streaming demands on the move.

Hi Tonks
I bought an EE sim card after being recommended to try them as best for signal in wales and it has worked fine with that so far...we are just reaching Snowdonia now so will see if it continues!
Still no TV though, but that's another story! One win for now!
