Hi I just can’t get my head around how many days I can spend in the Schengen area. I have tried the calculator and I am still confused! Details of my recent trips and proposed.

Date of entry 12 June 2022
Date of exit. 20 July 2022. =. 39 days

Date of entry. 13 Sept 2022
Date of exit. 18 Oct. 2022. =. 36.days

Proposed next trip
Date of entry. 20 Jan 2023
Date of exit. 23. Mar 2023. =. 63 days

Still confused,I know there is someone out there a lot brainier than me and I hope they could help please.

Anything older than 180 days can be ignored. So your first trip ended 6 months ago by the time the planned trip starts. So you can discard that one.

13 September + 180 days = 12 March. So on 13th I think you can start discounting days from your 2nd trip?

If you're not going over, you're cutting it fine!

As it's 90 days in 180 by the time you go again in January you have been out of Schenegen for long enough for the times to reset. You are now in the next 90 day period.

I put the first 2 trips into

and got the following result -

"OK. You can stay for 45 days more, until 02-12-2022.

If you re-enter the Schengen area on 25-10-2022, you can stay 54 days until 17-12-2022.

If you re-enter the Schengen area on 17-01-2023, you can stay 90 days until 16-04-2023."

As you will then be entering the Schengen area on 20 January, the clock has already moved on into the next period and you can stay for the full number of 63 days with no problem.

Edited to say that denisejoe said it before me with fewer words

Let's take it bit by bit.

You have no problem with the first two trip as they only total 75 days.

When you get to Jan 2023 by the time you enter on 23 Jan your first days of the June 2022 entry will have already dropped out of the total of 90 in 180, because they were more than 180 days before your 23 Jan entry and will continue to drop off day by day. So your June/July 2022 trip will not impinge on your 2023 trip.

Then we come to the Sept/Oct 2022 and its effect on the 2023 trip. Those two trips come to 99 days so breach the 90/180 because the first days and last days are all within 180 days. For that trip you have to enter 9 days later or depart 9 days earlier. This calculation of the 9 days is not exact as I have only looked at the days in the month and not counted exactly 180 days.

I hope that gives you the basis for deciding.

I mostly agreed with this. Better explained than my attempt. But towards the end of the planned trip will be more than 180 days since the START of the September trip. Therefore they are dropping outside the window.

I'd have to get a spreadsheet out to check it. I'm not sure if it's exceeding or not. It's a couple of days either way.

Google Schengen calculator, they are very simple and fool proof to use 👍🏻

Thanks for posting the tool. It's easier to use than the one I saw in a post earlier in the summer.

Many thanks for all your help. I am only a tiny bit confused! I think I will be ok.

Using the calculator in the link in post #4 it's clear that you will not have any problem with those dates. At March 23, you will only have been in Schengen for 87 of the last 180 days

I struggle with this. Tried a few Apps and this seemed the best and was free.
