I think this has been the subject of previous posts but my query is very simple, just requiring a yes or a no.
I have a ring compressor, was in the car when I was towing my Pennine folding camper.
I need to inflate my Moho tyres to 5.5 bar, the dial on the compressor reads above this.
My question, do you think it’s got the guts to do this?
I’m currently in Turkey and whilst I’m sure I can find somewhere with an air pump, I’d rather be self sufficient.
My old pressure tester doesn’t read that high! It was good for the car but not now.
 
Not my specific area so likely you'll get a better answer but I would be surprised if it would go to 5.5bar. Ring make different types of compressors and unless you spec'ed it to go that high then likely it won't as a car would not need anything near that. It would also probably overheat getting there as motorhome tyres are bigger. It should get you out of trouble though to the closed service station. I wouldn't use anything near 5.5bar on my camper - PVC on 3.5T ducato

5.5 bar is 80 psi and I doubt whether a car compressor will get that high and then there is the over heating issue. I would say no.

The Ring compressor will go up to 5.5bar - 79.7 psi as long as your just topping up but it will give you a very hard ride,plenty of threads on reducing tyre pressures 🙂

Most compressors that run off the 12v cig lighter socket in the car dash will struggle. I had one that first blew a 10A fuse, then when I tried it again there was a loud BANG and a chunk of metal shot out, so that was the end of it.

The cordless rechargeable type are now my favourite. There was another similar thread yesterday on this topic.

Do you really need to go that high with your tyre pressures?
I thought I did, this is the bar in the manual as well as annotated on the Moho in the door panel.
I guess i could lower them a bit because it does seem a hard ride.
You will probably gather I don’t know much and was just following the manufacturers guidance.

Every day is a school day. Yesterday I learned that cider and fizzy whit wine is filtered through fish bladder enzymes s cannot be classed as vegan.

I had motorhomed for 20+ years before I joined Fun and discovered all the essentials that I hadn't known that I needed to know. ;)

Compressors can overheat, start to slow down and then is the time to stop and let it cool down before running it again for bit.

I take my fronts to 5 bar on my N&B Arto tag and the rears at 4.5 bar.

My compressor is a German Heyner and says it needs a 14 amp supply and to only use for 7 minutes if inflating to over 75psi then to give it a 10 minute rest.

It is therefore fine for topping up but says it is not designed to inflate truck or tractor tyres.

I have made a substantial 12 volt extension cable and wire it direct to the cab battery with the engine running when using it.

Of course none of this is made clear in the sales blurb when you buy it. It blew the 10 amp fuse in the cigar lighter socket- no problem!
