We have a compressor fridge chest type when we were in Spain with the temperature running at mid 30 ish a couple of times when it shut down I heard a slight squeal I thought to give it a spray with WD40. I left it to more intelligent Funsters to advise me ya or nay.

That’s not what I’d have done.

The first thing I would have done is give the compressor area a spray with compressed air to remove the dust that will have accumulated. If the dust is now covered in WD40 you’ve made that a much harder job.

I’d next try and isolate where the noise was coming from and then decide what to do.

If you want to lubricate something there are much better products available than WD40. Used in the wrong place it can cause damage.
