Hi all, just been to view a Compass Avantgarde 140 2007. Comes with Twelve months warranty, 6 months tax. £22,000

We like the end lounge and on the face of it the motorhome looked well cared for, smelt good. Has anyone got anything to offer good or bad to say about this model of motorhome.

Thanks :)

We had the shorter 120 with end lounge.. Bought new in 2008 and we sold it in 2014. Loved it apart from making beds. Very reliable.. Only thing was the water pump was replaced and some door hinges.. every thing worked well.. No damp issues.

Thanks for the reply. I’ve just been reading about possible water ingress into the engine bay. Not sure if this effected all boxers.

We have one, love it, in practice we leave the bed up but turn the bed clothes back and use it as a settee in the day , it has a separate table that you can put up and sit at. Had it four years now , no problems at all apart from the normal servicing and stuff. Done all sorts of stuff to it that it didn't need but just some improvements we liked, if you would like to know anything about them just ask, repeat, love it.

We hade a 2008 140 for 3 years. Had 2 minor faults which were the kitchen sink tap leaking which was cured by replacing the push in hose and a warped door on the kitchen unit. At that year the engine bay water ingress was partially cured by resealing a leaking windscreen scuttle and adding a cover to protect the injectors . Most of the Fiat based motorhomes were retro fitted a plastic engine cover but as the 140 is Peugeot based they did not do it until much later so check one is fitted.

Thank you very much. Will call the dealer tomorrow to see what’s been done to cure the problem.

Been back today for a second look. This time the bonnet was lifted only to find pools of water sitting in the recesses with the injectors. Disappointing.

Unfortunately quite common on X250 Sevel clone cabs that haven't had user / owner modifications to the dreadful scuttle & / or an engine cover fitted.

I couldn’t quite believe it when he opened the bonnet to see if the modifications had been done only to find pools of water laying on the injectors , they looked rusty . If the modification has been carried out can I assume it’s ok? Is there other models made between 2003 / 2006 I would be better off looking at? Travelling miles just to find out water enters the engine bay is pointless.

Does it have an engine cover & has the scuttle had a drain hole installed in the nearside ?

The engine is a Ford Puma 2.2 & covers will be available from Ford or most breakers yards.

As far as I recall the X250 type with the dreadful scuttle design ran from late 2006 - early 2015, the current X290, with a revised scuttle came in late 2014 on '64 plates.

Our first Moho was a 2010 Elddis 145, which is similar to the Compass 140 & thankfully the previous owner had installed a nearside drain pipe in the scuttle & it was fitted with an engine cover, we had no water ingress issues in our 14 months of ownership.

No engine cover. I have given up on that one even though low miles and imaculate inside. It was a 2007. It’s had 10 years of water ingress into the engine can’t be a good thing. Oh well, I will just keep looking :)
